I had to come back and check out these baskets. I'm coming home after vaca and vow to finish remodeling my basement. These baskets will be perfect for the leisure relaxed vibe of my new space. I love baskets these are thrilling, fresh and new. :)K
These type of rugs bring back memories to me and I think they do make a house look more homely. The rugs and baskets have echoes of my childhood days, as I come from a family of folk who liked to use their skills to make useful household rugs and carpets. These are the types of fabric rugs that they had in the kitchen and in front of the range or fire place, but they used the worn out clothes from the family to make them. Had they known you could make matching baskets as well as rugs from braided fabrics I am sure they would have given it a try.
The other types of rugs my family made were the tufted rag rugs again made from old clothing cut into strips and then tufted through a canvas or even old sacking material. It is a skill I wish they had passed on to me, but one day I may give it a try as the results are lovely and individual, each one being different.
Thank you Kate.
Oh wow I love these braided baskets and rugs. My Grandma always had those rugs all over the house. I love them and had no idea you could get them in basket form. I love baskets so much they are a great accessory in any room of the house and so functional. Great product heads up. love it! :) K
Hello DA, the rugs your mum must be special as each one will be unique.
I think that might be what is nice about these braided rugs and baskets is that they have that homely look but are still stylish. My grandparent's were from a family who use to make rugs for their kitchens in this and other ways. The rugs they made from unwanted fabrics we all called rag rugs; I think it was a necessity then. In the past rag rugs were a great way to get a hearth rug from worn out clothes; a way of recycling before it had a name. It is good that your mom is continuing the tradition of crafting rugs. It is also nice that such things are once again fashionable.
These are lovely - especially the braided rugs. My mom braids rugs from coats and other clothing that she buys at local thrift shops and rummage sales. One winter she made a 8' x 10' rug for under $10. It's in my kitchen now!
