by 2uesday

If you need storage that is attractive and functional a braided basket in an attractive color could be the answer. This is a page with examples of pretty and practical baskets...

Some times the simplest of solutions are the best and that is the case with these braided storage baskets. The beauty of this type of basket is that it looks at home and stylish in both modern and traditionally decorated homes.

If you are looking for a way to cut down on the clutter and for an attractive looking storage solution, beautiful baskets can provide both.

Different types of storage will work for different types of people, what it is they wish to store and also if they want to make a feature of the storage or to hide it discretely away.

Braided Baskets will work well if you want storage containers that are practical, adaptable, attractive looking and a fast and neat way of storing items in every day use.
Braided Baskets are a neat solution to storage problems.

It is rare to find something that solves a practical function and yet is attractive enough to add something attractive to a home's decor. I think these braid baskets for storage, manage to do both.

One of the great things about this style of storage basket is the way it combines a traditional style with a modern and stylish look. Once the right color is selected to go with the decor, using this way of storing things adds a splash of color and originality to the appearance of the room they are used in.

The basket and the rug would work well together in a bathroom setting, kitchen, or a utility room. The rug and basket are made in a practical material so should cope well with life in a family home.

Storage Choices.

What can you use these storage baskets for?

What do you want to store?  Newspapers, shoes, toys, laundry, craft items.

The important decision apart from the color choice is to buy the right size basket for the items you want to store.

As with all storage it is usually better to buy the larger sized one, rather than cramming everything into a too smaller basket.

Best sort of storage for Baby Toys

I think the style of baskets here are great for tidying away the baby toys at the end of a long day, You can scoop the toys up and drop them in the basket and the room instantly looks tidier. The ability to drop the toys into a storage basket is really good if baby or toddler has a mass of toys on the floor and unexpected guests arrive. Instead struggling to put the toys away a quick snatch and grab of them before you answer the door and you will have the toys in a basket in no time.

Of course your toddler might decide to use this type of basket as a toy and explore its possibilities.

I think a basket is safer than a rigid toy box, which at certain stages some toddlers will attempt to climb on.  A baby that is learning to walk may need the basket put out of reach for a while as it could try to use it as a means of support, but once they can toddle most children they soon learn the difference between objects for support and other items.

one reason why baskets work well for storage is because they can accommodate and store irregular shaped items, as well as the neat and tidy things, like folded clean laundry waiting to be transported to another room.

If you would like to see any of the baskets on this page in other colors or sizes, you can follow the link - pictures.

These type of rugs bring back memories to me and I think they do make a house look more homely. The rugs and baskets have echoes of my childhood days, as I come from a family of folk who liked to use their skills to make useful household rugs and carpets. These are the types of fabric rugs that they had in the kitchen and in front of the range or fire place, but they used the worn out clothes from the family to make them. Had they known you could make matching baskets as well as rugs from braided fabrics I am sure they would have given it a try.
The other types of rugs my family made were the tufted rag rugs again made from old clothing cut into strips and then tufted through a canvas or even old sacking material. It is a skill I wish they had passed on to me, but one day I may give it a try as the results are lovely and individual, each one being different.
Thank you Kate.

Hello DA, the rugs your mum must be special as each one will be unique.
I think that might be what is nice about these braided rugs and baskets is that they have that homely look but are still stylish. My grandparent's were from a family who use to make rugs for their kitchens in this and other ways. The rugs they made from unwanted fabrics we all called rag rugs; I think it was a necessity then. In the past rag rugs were a great way to get a hearth rug from worn out clothes; a way of recycling before it had a name. It is good that your mom is continuing the tradition of crafting rugs. It is also nice that such things are once again fashionable.

These are lovely - especially the braided rugs. My mom braids rugs from coats and other clothing that she buys at local thrift shops and rummage sales. One winter she made a 8' x 10' rug for under $10. It's in my kitchen now!
