I've been looking for an attractive and well-made yoga gym bag or tote bag that is large enough to easily hold my gear for yoga classes and workshops, including my mat, and also more stylish than the typical gym duffel bag. After considering a number of bags, I narrowed down my choices to the following yoga bags and totes. All have received very high reviews from customers.
I ended up buying (and loving!) the Timbuk2 Scrunchie Yoga Tote Bag, but I would've been happy with any of the other selections as well.
eBags Kalya Town Square Yoga Bag
The Sanskrit word Kalya translates as "healthy" or "able". The practice of yoga is certainly a powerful way to help keep us more healthy and able throughout our lives.
This attractive and appealing eBags Kalya Town Square Yoga Bag will help keep you organized and pulled together as you travel to your yoga class or fitness class. It also makes a great overnight bag or carry-on bag.
The bag is made of soft ribbed nylon and has many compartments and pockets to help keep you organized, including a large main compartment, various zippered pockets, a water bottle pocket on one end, and on the other end a padded pocket with a headphone port for your MP3 player or iPod.
A hide-away compartment at the bottom can be unzipped to create a sling for your yoga mat.
Comes in black, navy, and eggplant.
The Kalya Town Square is one of eBags "Rated Best of the Best" bags, with a recommendation rate of 94% from over 1500 reviewers.
Sherpani Meta 4 Yoga / Gym Bag
Pretty and Functional Yoga Duffel Bag
You'll like this Sherpani Meta 4 Yoga / Gym Bag ($60 - $80) if you're looking for a stylish gym bag with lots of room to hold your yoga or gym clothes, shoes, water bottle, and yoga mat. There are exterior organizational pockets for extras, such as your phone, iPod, or wallet, and it opens wide so you can see everything easily in the main compartment without having to rummage through it. Wide shoulder straps will let you carry it comfortably.
The Sherpani Meta 4 Bag comes with a shoe bag (or small items bag) that matches the floral design of the interior lining of the bag.
You can also use it as a nice overnight bag. It's the kind of small duffel bag that I like to carry when I'm traveling to a weekend yoga workshop or retreat.
As you can see from the second image, your yoga mat can be strapped to the side of the Meta 4 bag. An older version of this bag had mat straps on the bottom. This new version is better because you can set your bag down without having it tip over or without setting your mat down on a dirty surface.
There are a number of colors available, including basic black. My favorite color is the green and brown bag that's shown here. You can see from this image that the yoga mat straps can be cinched flat and out of the way when you're not toting your yoga mat.
The Sherpani Meta 4 Bag is earth-friendly, with 67% recycled fabric.
Timbuk2 Scrunchie Yoga Tote Bag
Stylish and roomy
The Timbuk2 Scrunchie Tote Bag ($65 - $80) is an attractive "roomy all-around gear bag that cradles your yoga mat and looks good doing it." How easy and practical!
This bag looks more like a large sporty handbag than a gym bag. There's enough room inside to hold your gym or yoga clothes, shoes and a water bottle, along with other odds and ends like snacks or your lunch, and a couple books. It has slash pockets on the outside for quick access, and an inner zipper pocket for safe-keeping small items like your phone, wallet, or keys.
The base is waterproof and the sides are water resistant, to keep your gear dry if you get caught in the rain or if you need to set the bag down on a wet surface.
This is another good yoga bag that I would love to use as an overnight bag or carry-on.
eBags gives the Timbuk2 Scrunchie Yoga Tote Bag the "Best of the Best" rating, because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews that customers give it.
Dakine Sarita Yoga Bag
Feminine pattern
I like the organizational features and the cute, "girlie" pattern of this well-designed and sturdily constructed Dakine Sarita Yoga Bag (about $60).
This bag is large enough to hold your yoga clothes or a yoga blanket, along with a block, and towel in the main compartment. There are a few exterior pockets, including a side pocket large enough for your water bottle. A separate shoe compartment keeps dirty shoes away from the rest of your gear.
The Dakine Sarita Yoga Bag comes with a separate nylon sleeve for your yoga mat. Just roll your mat, put it in the sleeve, and slide through the zippered pockets for easy carrying. The second image shows a yoga mat inside the sleeve, and inserted through the carrying pocket.
The shoulder strap is adjustable for optimum carrying comfort.
This is another Best of the Best bag from eBags.
