I've been looking for an attractive and well-made yoga gym bag or tote bag that is large enough to easily hold my gear for yoga classes and workshops, including my mat, and also more stylish than the typical gym duffel bag. After considering a number of bags, I narrowed down my choices to the following yoga bags and totes. All have received very high reviews from customers.
I ended up buying (and loving!) the Timbuk2 Scrunchie Yoga Tote Bag, but I would've been happy with any of the other selections as well.

There are exterior organizational pockets for extras, such as your phone, iPod, or wallet, and it opens wide so you can see everything easily in the main compartment without having to rummage through it. Wide shoulder straps will let you carry it comfortably.
The Sherpani Meta 4 Bag comes with a shoe bag (or small items bag) that matches the floral design of the interior lining of the bag.
You can also use it as a nice overnight bag. It's the kind of small duffel bag that I like to carry when I'm traveling to a weekend yoga workshop or retreat.
As you can see from the second image, your yoga mat can be strapped to the side of the Meta 4 bag. An older version of this bag had mat straps on the bottom. This new version is better because you can set your bag down without having it tip over or without setting your mat down on a dirty surface.
There are a number of colors available, including basic black. My favorite color is the green and brown bag that's shown here. You can see from this image that the yoga mat straps can be cinched flat and out of the way when you're not toting your yoga mat.

There's enough room inside to hold your gym or yoga clothes, shoes and a water bottle, along with other odds and ends like snacks or your lunch, and a couple books. It has slash pockets on the outside for quick access, and an inner zipper pocket for safe-keeping small items like your phone, wallet, or keys.
The base is waterproof and the sides are water resistant, to keep your gear dry if you get caught in the rain or if you need to set the bag down on a wet surface.
This is another good yoga bag that I would love to use as an overnight bag or carry-on.
