How To Create a Candy Buffet

  • Purchase Candy: Shop your local candy shops or online for an assortment of candies to incorporate into your buffet.  The general rule of thumb is to have about 4oz of candy for each guest.  You can always purchase a bit more to be on the safe side.
  • Color Scheme:  For most candy buffets, following the color scheme of the celebration is very important.   Purchase an assortment of candies to match your party colors.
  • Select Containers:  The most popular candy buffet containers are clear or glass jars.  Other container ideas include pails, baskets, cake & cupcake stands, platters and more.  You can add interest to your candy buffet by incorporating a variety of container styles.
  • Candy Buffet Accessories:  You will also need candy scoops and tongs to set out on your buffet.  Scoops and tongs are available in plastic, metal and stainless steel.  They also come in a variety of colors.
  • Candy Bags:  Purchase bags for your candy buffet so the guests can take some candy back to their table or take some home after the celebration.
  • Decorative Elements:  Embellish the candy containers and candy scoops with decorative ribbon, labels and more to coordinate with your party theme.  Accent your candy buffet with bows, flowers, ribbons and other party items.
  • Visual Interest:  Candy buffets thrive on their eye-catching design, therefore, giving your candy buffet depth and height will add to the overall look of your display.  One way to do this is to place a book or other object under the table cover and set the container on top.  You could also place the container directly on top of a box decorated in your party theme.
  • Personalization:  Personalize for that added touch!  You can add personalized labels on the candy containers, candy bags and also create custom signs to decorate the buffet.

What is a Dessert Table or Sweets Table?

Unlike a Candy Buffet, a Sweets Table or Dessert Table features other desserts in additon to candy.

Some items you will see at a Sweets Table include candy, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, cake and muffins.  Many times the desserts at a Sweets Table are small and bite-sized.

Hunger Games Sweets Table

I created the mini sweets table pictured above for my daughter's Hunger Games Party.    Many times a candy buffet or sweets table is based on a color theme.

However, sometimes your sweets table can be inspired by your party theme.  That is what we did for my daughter's party.   For her Hunger Games sweets table I included Red Hots for The Girl on Fire, Blackberry Gummmies for Nightlock Berries and Crumbled Oreo Cookies for Coal.
