Canon PowerShot SX40 HS Digital Compact Camera

by BrendaReeves

If you're looking for a versatile camera that takes excellent pictures, check out the Canon Power Shot SX40.

After seven years of using my Canon PowerShot A630, it finally gave out on me. I think it was from dropping it one too many times which is something I wouldn't suggest doing. This PowerShot served me well and took sharp photos including closeups. The only problem I had with it was the zoom of only 4x. After moving from California to Kentucky, I discovered Kentucky has the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. One day I tried capturing a shot of a beautiful red bird, the Northern cardinal, but the range was too far for my A630. Therefore, after bouncing it off the floor for the last time, I was in the market for a new camera.

Requirements in a Camera

When I bought my last camera, I really didn't know anything about cameras. This time I was an experienced photographer and knew exactly what I needed. I researched the SLR cameras, but decided I didn't want to carry a heavy camera around with lenses that I had to change in order to get my zoom shots. I wanted the convenience of a point and shoot camera that would do a little more. I sell items on the internet like jewelry and china and needed a camera that takes sharp closeups and I needed a far reaching zoom for nature shots. I found exactly what I wanted in the Canon PowerShot SX40.

Learn Photography

If you have been using an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera, but would like to get serious about photography, this is the camera for you. The manual that's included explains how to operate this easy to use PowerShot. If you know nothing about photography, there is more than one way to learn. Firstly, Barnes & Noble sells some excellent books on self-taught photography. There are also online photography schools and you could take classes on the Internet. You might even find some photography classes at your local adult school or community college. Whether you choose to go through a photography school online or take classes in your community, the Canon Digital PowerShot SX 40 has everything you need to become a great photographer.

Where to Purchase the Canon Digital SX 40 PowerShot

You naturally will want to shop around for the best price on your Canon Camera. I purchased mine through Dell simply because I have an account with them. However, I found that Dell and Best Buy have comparable prices. As of the date of this article, Dell, Best Buy and Amazon are selling this camera for the same price.

Great photo of the cardinal, I see them everyday out on my deck feeder here in Ohio. I look forward to seeing some great photography from you now that you've got the camera part figured out. Thanks for the review of the canon powershot.
