As Valentine's Day draws nearer, it's the perfect time to think about what Cherish means. Cherish can be used in a romantic sense but it also applies to friendships and objects as well.
Life is something to be cherished and celebrated while we are here - if you strip away all the commercial aspects of Valentine's Day then you'll discover that the true meaning is simply to treasure and hold dear the ones we love while we can.
Cherish comes from the Latin word cārus which literally translates as 'dear' or 'beloved.'
In a Romantic Sense, cherish means to feel great affection for and to hold dear the one you love.
Cherish applied to Friends and Family means that you love them and also has protective connotations too, for example: she cherishes her baby or he cherishes his dog.
Some people cherish Objects or Things. Perhaps you treasure a piece of jewelry which has been passed down in your family or given to you by someone you love. There are often books that we cherish, perhaps ones that have struck an emotional chord and you want to re-read them time and time again.

We also cherish Ideas and Hopes. Certain memories are held dear and captured in our minds forever - we cherish our yesterdays. And we also cherish the future too with our hopes and aspirations for what is to come.
