Christmas Cake Picks and Toppers

Make your Christmas baking stand out with some awesome Christmas cake picks and toppers.

Using baking 'props' such as cake picks or cake toppers are a great way to turn your usual baking delights into festive and fun baking goodies that will make everyone comment on them!

Normal cupcakes can be transformed into Christmas cupcakes with the addition of a simple cupcake pick or wrapper and plain iced Christmas cakes can be turned into centerpieces that start conversations when a festive cake topper is added.

Make Your Christmas Cake Stand Out From The Crowd

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without an iced Christmas cake, but I must admit I actually buy my Christmas cake - each year I really do mean to make one, but time races by and I quickly buy one instead!

Now a store-brought iced Christmas cake can taste very nice (and I have a couple of brands that I know I can always rely on), but usually it's either plain or has a very boring Merry Christmas foil pick popped in it that also has fake ivy and holly attached if you're lucky.   Now I don't know about you, but I have one word for that - boring!

Adding a cake topper like Santa in his sleigh with his reindeer pulling him along (like you can see opposite) and you've already made your Christmas cake a lot more visibly interesting.

I can remember one year my aunt just stuck a sign post that said North Pole on her Christmas cake and told us that she had to cut the cake and no one else because if we used the knife we might hurt an elf!

Apparently there was a big snowfall and the elves and Santa's workshop were all buried under a layer of snow.   It made sure that not only did none of us (then all young children) even think about touching the cake knife we also made sure we were all watching when the cake was cut - it would seem that the sign post must've been moved because all we found was cake :(

These Christmas cake toppers are a lot of fun and there are a range of them available to make your Christmas cake look stunning.

They are made of 100% food safe acrylic and are available in three different styles as you can see above - star, rectangle or oval.   As far as designs are concerned...........there are lots of different ones to choose from.

Vintage Christmas Cake Toppers

You can try a vintage design on your cake topper like the ones below or something much more modern and/or fun.

Snowman Christmas Cake Toppers

I have an online friend who makes the best looking snowman cupcakes, but to be honest when it comes to Christmas time I have so many things to do in the kitchen (let alone anywhere else) that the last thing I want to do is decorate cupcakes or 'big' cakes.

I have made very simple fondant snowmen before to pop on a Christmas cake for my daughter's pre-school Christmas party in the past, but I much prefer to use cake wrappers or picks instead and this year I've just 'discovered' a range of snowman cake toppers available through Zazzle.

Christmas Cupcake Picks

Of course cupcakes are always popular at any time of the year, but Christmas ones are extra special in my opinion.   When you find some festive cupcake picks all you need to do is make a selection of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, frost them with white icing and pop in one of your picks.

Sometimes I use Christmas cupcake wrappers as well, but if I've got plenty of cupcake picks then I can stick to a selection of plain red and green cupcake wrappers instead.

Do You Use Christmas Cake Picks or Toppers?

I hope I've given you an idea to help ease the time-stress we are all under at Christmas time, I certainly find that using ready made cake picks and/or toppers are just one of those things which frees me up without compromising on the overall festive feel of the holidays.

I also love to look for some great 'food props' throughout the year so that I'm organized before the holiday countdown begins in earnest.   I will confess that I also tell my hubby that we can re-use the picks each year and yet I somehow manage to buy more each year (shhhhhhhh!)

I haven't seen Christmas cake picks here last time I looked at a confectionery store. I agree they're fun. Enjoyed reading your article!
