Dog Beer: Elise Schumacher and Paws Point Brews Bottled Near Sydney Harbour for Aussie Canines

by DerdriuMarriner

For canines and their Aussie pals, the acronym DB means Dog Beer. It results from alcohol-free, beef-filled brewing. It suits social bonding over drinks by dogs and their people.

Family animals embrace a stage of showing and telling. They give their human companions prime specimens from successful foraging. Through eye and paw movements and vocal encouragements, they invite human participation in the fresh, unprocessed feast.

The human reaction generally is intended to applaud pest-controlling commitments and to dissuade pest-sharing banquets.

Its component of relief over pesty exclusions from living spaces may get recycled as relief over domesticated inclusions in household goings-on when family animals get their own portions or versions of human edibles and potables. Socio-economic advancement typically means that a household’s tamed and trained animals will enjoy:
• upgrades to expensive brands;
• versions of human foods.
It prompts Elise Schumacher to invent Aussie beer for dogs.

Elizabeth Bay House, built 1835-1839 for Alexander Macleay (June 24, 1767 - July 18, 1848), New South Wales Colonial Secretary and namesake of street on which Paws Point Deli & Boutique is located.

Located about 1470 feet (448 meters) northeast of Paws Point, Alexander Macleay's house features stunning central staircase, credited to John Verge (1782 - July 9, 1861), which contrasts with stark, incomplete exterior.

Since January 2007, it behooves Elise to be General Manager of ANTEL Consulting trading as Paws Point. The pet deli and boutique honors Sydney-area pioneers through its location on Potts Point Peninsula’s Macleay Street. The house built by New South Wales Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay (June 24, 1767 – July 18, 1848) between 1835 and 1839 still is standing. The Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales operates the Elizabeth Bay House as one of Sydney’s living museums. The house memorializes Australia’s colonial architectural achievements with:

  • Greek Revival interiors;
  • Regency exteriors.

But the peninsular name recalls the Bank of New South Wales’s first employee, Joseph Hyde Potts (January 1, 1793 – January 1, 1865), who developed but never inhabited his 6.5-acre (2.63-hectare) tract.

The pet-supply distribution, manufacture, retail and wholesale business claims a convenient and scenic location on Australia’s busy southeastern coast. The peninsula indeed gives ridge-elevation access to and perspectives on such local landmarks as:

  • Actor, musician, and producer Russell Crowe’s (born April 7, 1964) Finger Wharf hotel penthouse;
  • El Alamein Memorial Fountain designed by Robert Raymond Woodward (June 5, 1923 – February 21, 2010) to honor the Australian 9th Division’s valor in Egypt and Libya during Western Desert Campaign battles of July 1 – 27 and October 23 – November 11, 1942;
  • Elizabeth and  Woolloomooloo Bays on Sydney Harbour;
  • The English Gothic-styled Metropolitan Cathedral of St Mary.

It is known for its historic preservation of Georgian-, Regency-, and Victorian-style residential architecture.

Paws Point Deli & Boutique's ambient, historic neighborhood: Art Deco-styled Metro Theatre, built in 1937, now serves as production headquarters for Australian film giant, director George Miller (born March 3, 1945).

The former Metro Theatre is located about 164 feet (50 meters) southwest of Paws Point.

Art Deco and Spanish Mission architectural styles characterize the peninsula’s early twentieth-century apartment buildings. As evidenced by what remains of the Metro Kings Cross complex of Metro Chambers, Minerva Café, Nightclub, and Theatre, Art Deco and Streamline Moderne dominate the ridge’s early twentieth-century business precincts. Historic shop-fronts likewise emerge throughout area commercial niches. Their owner-operators still know how to attract:

  • Rich locals;
  • Wealthy visitors.

Area beautification, district safety, historic preservation, and socio-economic profitability indeed number among the priorities of Potts Point’s administrative body, the Sydney City Council composed of nine Councillors and led by the tenth as the capital city’s Right Honourable Lord Mayor.  Elise structures her business in response to:

  • Oceania-focused markets;
  • Souvenir-seeking tourists;
  • Sydney-area suburbanites.

The Paws Point customer bases and market niches indeed articulate area and international demands for quality pet products. Elise’s pet deli and boutique counts as inventory:

  • Accessories;
  • Clothing, costumes, warmers;
  • Collars, harnesses, leads;
  • Grooming and training literature and products;
  • Holiday gifts;
  • House- and travel-friendly sets of attachments, barriers, beds, bowls, carriers, feeders, mats, pillows, seats, shields, ties;
  • Shelters;
  • Toys.

As product development head, Elise always heeds the reactions of her customer’s canine companions and her own “fur children” to the above-mentioned product line. Elise’s two fluffy white-furred friends, Louis and Vuitton, in fact inspire her drink- and food-related offerings on-line and on-site. It is for them that Paws Point intends to “Shout your best friend a beer!”

Anti-canine foods: Caffeine and theobromine in chocolate trouble canine nervous systems and induce fatal diarrhea.

Cocoa solids and cocoa butter, from which chocolate is derived, are extracted from fruit pod seeds of cacao, or cocoa, tree (Theobroma cacao).

Alcohol and carbonation, chocolate, garlic and onions, grapes and raisins, and hops appear on authoritative lists of edibles and potables which are deemed toxically problematic for dogs of any age, breed or gender. The caffeine and theobromine in chocolate (Theobroma cacao) bother canine nervous systems and induce painfully terminal bouts of:

  • Diarrhea;
  • Nausea.

Garlic (Allium sativum) and onions (Allium cepa) do not damage red blood cells or provoke anemia in humans even though they do exactly that inside canine bodies. Grape- or raisin-filled (Vitis spp) wines encourage kidney dysfunction and failure. Hops-filled beers facilitate fatal fevers and seizures. Alcohol and carbonation therefore go clearly with initial euphoria and ultimately with painful death when it comes to dogs.

So what does an enterprising human companion do when canine friends appear to enjoy occasional sips and swallows of alcoholic, carbonated, hops- and yeast-filled beers and coffee stouts? The answer emerges only after careful experimentation and meticulous investigation. It involves one of three options:

  • Excluding canines from drinking rounds with human companions;
  • Teetotaling;
  • Welcoming innovative product lines which are cognizant of canine anatomies and physiologies and respectful of dietary prescriptions and proscriptions.

For Elise, the problem of canine “munchies” is problem-solved with crafted menus. So Louis’s and Vuitton’s love for beer prompts the availability through Paws Point of:

  • Beef-tasting, hops-free, non-alcoholic, non-carbonated, yeast-free Dog Beer;
  • Beer-chasing beef, chicken, codfish, mussel, pork, and tuna treats;
  • Organic catnip cigars.

a solution to mandatory empty beer glasses and canine teetotalers

While hops-based beers are toxic for canines, beers specifically crafted for canine health are canine-friendly alternatives to teetotalism.

Conclusion

People who love the world’s fauna and flora commit to happy, healthy lives for the tamed, trained animals of family and friends. For example, family and friendly get-togethers and reunions do not feel complete without canine companions equally immersed in group fun and equivalently included in photo opportunities. Shopping trips do not seem enjoyable without the participation of or purchases for canine friends. Holiday travel goes down best with souvenir-hunting jaunts tailoring mementoes to recipients. One of the saddest sights therefore is a canine companion feeling less than because of being forgotten or overlooked. It is not something that happens to Aussie devotees of Dog Beer- and treat-filled shelves at Elise’s Paws Point Pet Deli & Boutique.
