This is part two of a five part series of articles about plus size raw vegans and how you can view your success in alternative ways. The scale is not your only judge.
Last week we answered the question ‘Am I eating more greens, fruits and vegetables?’.
This week I would like to answer the question ‘Do you exercise more?’.
For me the answer to this question is again an outstanding YES.
I started to really pay attention to my health October of 2010. It was in late October that I started using Walking Dvds to exercise. Pretty soon I started walking around the block and eventually I was able to walk 6 miles a day.
If exercise is a regular part of your life already this will not apply to you. However, if like me, you haven’t exercised for almost 10 years with an ever increasing waist line – pay attention.

Breathless to 6 Miles - My Exercise Journey
Back in October of 2010 I would lose my breath walking from the front door to the car – all of maybe 15 steps. If I decided to walk around the block I felt as though my heart would burst and my back pain was beyond belief. It was then I decided to use the walking dvds. At least I could rest if I needed to and relieve my back pain when it got too bad.
I even started training for a half marathon. I was doing pretty well, each week adding to the miles I could walk. When the time came for the marathon I was unable to participate. This really messed with my head. It took me a while but eventually I had to love myself enough to acknowledge my success and progress.
- I went from 15 steps to 6miles/day
- The more I walked the less back pain I experienced [i.e. less ibuprofen I needed-I was up to about 1200mg/day]
- 10 years of inactivity to any activity is a plus
- I can breathe when walking to the car
- I will never forget how awesome it felt to move again
- I started to look forward to exercise and enjoyed it
Yes, I’m a plus size raw vegan transitioning into a 80% [20%] raw/cooked foods diet and although on the outside I might still look like a classic case of the S.A.D. there is more to me than the rolls of fat that jiggle on this 30+ body. [standard American diet]
