A query about the need for a cookie declaration

Obviously, this is not an announcement about baking cookies.  I mean the type of cookies that are placed by web sites to track visits.

I have noticed that sites in the UK and EU countries are now having to declare the use of cookies when you visit their pages. Some even ask for consent to place the cookies. I believe this is to comply with legislation in the EU/UK but have not yet checked it out.

Does this mean that if we get traffic/visits from UK and European Union countries we have to also place this declaration on the things we publish online?

If such a declaration becomes necessary, we set it up on a site-wide basis. Individual authors don't have to worry about this.

The EU law states that only sites which specifically target European traffic are required to conform.

So, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.de will need to conform, but Amazon.com will not.

Google.co.uk will need to comform, but Google.com will not.

Wizzley is not required to conform as a result.
