I once heard a Buffalo, NY announcer advise that the thespian actor Bill Shatner was coming to town. Wrong on two counts for those of us who have seen Shatner "act."

And who doesn't want to call the folks in local newspapers who advertise dog puppies for sale?

I LIKE William Shatner. And he's a sweetheart - I met him a few years ago and am happy to admit it. I'm a fan. He's a human being with human foibles and I like him for it.

Described by one of my clients as 'a literary grammarian', writing, researching and reading are requirements for sanity, at least this side of the keyboard.

I have to agree with you there. I thought he was pretty good on Boston Legal.  He is a little off to one side but that's ok.

I've been reading everybody's pet peeves, thought I would add my own.

I hate when speaking people pepper their speech with:

"you know what I'm sayin'"

"you know"

"like" (have to admit, I use this a lot. Trying to break myself now :)

One word that is used wrong all the time that I hear is irregardless. Ugh

We bought a new car over the weekend. The conversation with the finance lady went something like this:

"Are you still at 92 Keats Walk?"

"Yes."

"Perfect."

"And you want 0% financing over 72 months?"

"Yes."

"Perfect."

"Did you want the extended warranty?"

"No thank you."

"Perfect."

And on, and on.

Also, in defence of my comments about William Shatner's - ahem - acting ability, I offer Exhibit A, his rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

I rest my case.

People who start every comment with "So...."

When it's in answer to a question, it actually sounds rude.

(about to turn the dial off of NPR....)
