Went to the cardiologist today ...

... with my wife. So far, everything seems to be okay.

Here comes the fun part:

There are 3 cardiologists in that office.

One of them is Dr. Eric Frischhertz.  (Website)

It's a German name, and it means ... get this ... fresh heart. (Although the German word for heart---Herz---is spelled without the "t".)

What a cool name for a cardiologist, don't you think?

Do you know anyone who's name is somewhat descriptive of their profession?

Ahhh, Nominative Determinism. A favorite game for wordnerds!

I give you this from the Monitor on the BBC.

And this, about young England rugby star Billy Twelvetrees, whose name alone is poetic enough to ensure a following, even if he never took to the field again

And I'm very pleased to hear that all is well on the medical front.

Two oral surgeons in the same practice in our area:

Dr. Fear

Dr. Hitchcock

Dr. Fear is a very nice man -- doesn't live up to his name, thank goodness, but it describes perfectly my feelings toward oral surgery!  I haven't met the other one, but I've met his wife (through my business), and she's perfectly nice too :-)

There's a lawyer near a place I worked long ago named "Cheatham."  I always wound up reading the sign as "cheatem" (cheat 'em).  Nearly wrecked doing a double take first time I drove past.

Shoot, I'd never see a doctor named 'Fear'!

I'd rather go to Dr. Will Costya.

My dentist was called Mr Payne.  He's dead now.

The famous satirical magazine, "Private Eye" used to tell the tales of a fictional solicitors called "Sue, Grabbit & Run".

Thanks for the links, Paula. Although I read the whole article, I don't think I "get" the "Twelvetrees" thing. Undecided

Billy's dad is a tree surgeon. He does things to trees to stop them being dangerous, like cutting off overhanging branches and taking off the tops so they don't grow too tall.

He took his wife's name because she was a Miss Twelvetrees and he thought it was a great name for his business.

It's also just a great, memorable name, isn't it?

I went out with a guy many years ago whose surname was Siebenmorgen. That's 'Weeks' to us English speakers, but it sounds much better in German, don't you think?

Gotcha, thanks.  Smile

"Siebenmorgen" is definitely stronger than "Weeks" (pun intended).

There's a dentist in nearby Kitchener, Ontario with the unfortunate name of Dr. Pus. Think I would have changed it or taken up another profession.

I see Dr. Pus more as a "cat psychologist".
