Funny Food Costumes Are Adorable on Babies

Have you ever seen a baby dressed as a tootsie roll, or a hot dog?  Somehow these funny food costumes actually make adorable babies look even cuter, as if that were possible. I will admit it.  I think babies are enchanting.  Their little smiles and soft precious giggles brings cheer to everyone who sees that happy little cherub face.  Add a funny costume, and you just can't lose.

So, when it comes to dressing up baby, there are so many choices out there.  If the costume is for Halloween, then parents have hundreds of choices.  There are traditional ghosts, witches, and other scary creatures, there are cartoon characters, superheroes, fairies, pumpkins, animals, flowers, firemen and one of my favorites - food.

That is where this page comes in.  I have selected my favorite food costumes for babies. These are the ones that brought a smile to my face and a giggle when I saw it. Have a look and before you go, be sure to let me know which was your favorite.

Pea in a Pod

(seen just above)

I wonder if starting baby off in their first Halloween as a Pea in a Pod, or some other healthy vegetable will  have any life long effects on their food choices.  Wouldn't it be nice if fifteen years from now, we could be sitting around with our kids looking through old photo albums.  The child comes to a photo of their first Halloween and says,

"Thanks mom for starting me off with such healthy habits.  It is no wonder I have maintained such great attitudes around my eating."

Ok, it is a bit ridiculous. But on the other hand, the baby pea in the pod costume is soft, comfortable and absolutely adorable.  So maybe when we all look back at the photos, we will simply comment on how happy baby looks.

Tootsie Roll Infant Costume

I thought I would start out with my all time favorite baby costume.  I think this Tootsie Roll is delightful.  Ok, I admit I love Tootsie Rolls.  They are one of those candies that always remind me of my childhood.  They were my favorite as a child, and I still love them today, just not as often.

I am not sure if it is the chocolate flavor or the chewy goodness, or just the memories of happy days.  What ever it is, it was love at first site for me and this Tootsie Roll baby costume.

The costume itself is made of polyfoam and baby looks just like a delicious treat.  It comes in infant sizes 3-12 months.  Personally, I would only get it for a baby who isn't mobile yet.

Tips for Shopping for Baby Costumes

A few things to keep in mind when making your selection:

  • Is baby mobile?  If yes, you may not want to get a costume that limits baby's ability to move around.  While costumes are adorable to us as adults, babies don't really care.  Imagine the frustration to a baby who has recently started crawling if they were put into a sack costume like the Tootsie Roll.
  • Where are you going to be?  Is baby going to be wearing the costume in the tropics or in the snow?  Will baby be indoors our outside? These are important questions when thinking about what type of costume to get.  If baby will be in a hot climate, they would probably not be happy in something fleece and warm like the pea in the pod.  On the other hand, if baby is to be outside in a cool climate, he would want something warm and either large enough to wear a jumper (jacket) underneath the costume, or small enough that a jacket can fit over it.
  • When is the event? If you are shopping well in advance of the wearing date, or if you plan to use it on multiple occasions, remember that babies grow quickly, so a larger size might be necessary.

Baby Hot Dog Costume

Is this the perfect little baby hot dog costume?  Well that would depend who you asked.  If you ask me, I would say yes.  It is exactly how I like my hotdog, larger than the bun and with a single strip of mustard.

However, if you were to ask the other members of my family you would be told:

  • Sorry it needs ketchup too.
  • Eeewww, mustard, yuck.
  • Where is the sour kraut?
This cute baby hot dog costume is made of polyester.

Red Hot Chili Pepper Costume

Here is a costume great for older babies who want to walk around in cooler climate.  Long sleeves and long pants will help keep baby warm, as will the hat.  Plus the romper has snaps for easy diaper changes.

**NOTE: This pepper costume has elastic at the ankles and does not cover the feet as shown. Personally, I think this is a good thing as baby can wear their own shoes, which will be much easier for walking than the oversized foot coverings in the photo.
