Greenworks 26032 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Snow Thrower Review

by AshleyB

The Greenworks 26032 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Snow Thrower saved my tail during my first winter in a snowy climate. Without it, I would have been home-bound for six months straight!

How the Greenworks 26032 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Snow Thrower Saved Me!

The Greenworks 26032 kept my driveway clear when my husband was out of town.

I am a southern girl, through and through, but I married a man who was born and raised in the snow. My first winter of married life was spent in a northern climate, buried in feet of snow, with my husband gone three out of four weeks of every month.

We both new that if I was going to get out of the house, I was going to need a snow thrower that I could operate on my own. So we started some heavy duty research.

I wrote up a full Greenworks 26032 20-Inch 12 Amp Electric Snow Thrower review.

But I wanted to go over a few details that I didn't cover in my review.

Snow Thrower Review, The Competition

Best Snow Throwers

There are big name brands that make snow throwers. At the top of the list is Toro, Greenworks, Snow Joe, Worx, Poulan, and Murray.

The Toro 7.5 Amp is the most popular snow thrower currently on Amazon, but it is less powerful and also received less stars than my choice, the Greenworks 26032. However, the Toro 7.5 amp has an excellent price point, right at $99. So, if you are looking for a bargain, this one might be your best bet.

Toro also makes a 15 amp thrower, but it is more costly than the Greenworks, and also does not have as good of a rating.

Snow Joes makes a 13.5 amp that has great reviews, 4.5 stars, and also is less than $200. It is not as popular as the Toro or Greenworks, but it is a powerful snow thrower, at a great value, with many satified customers.

WORX has a 13 amp model that is in the low $200 range. It has a good size base at 18 inches, but if you are looking for a wider base, again, the Greenworks model comes out on top with a 20 inch base.

Now, if you are looking for a super wide snow thrower, Poulan and Murray have several models to choose from. Understand though, once you get over 20 inches, your price point goes up considerably. These two companies make models anywhere from 21 inches all the way up to a whopping 27 inches wide, but the price goes from $400-$800.

Take a look at what Amazon is offering below, and remember you get free shipping with all of these models.

What You'll Need To Get The Job Done!

When you purchase your Snow Thrower, I really recommend that you also purchase an extension cord that is at least 100 ft. long, as well as an extension cord reel to keep the cord out of the way.

My favorite extension cord reel is the Bayco K-100 150 foot cord reel. This reel winds the cord up smoothly, and also releaseds the cord without any trouble. The last thing you want to do when you are getting your driveway clear is wrestling with a cord.

I also purchased the Colman Cable 02309 16/3 Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord.

Snow Thrower or Snow Blower

And why should you care?

A snow thrower is a "single-stage" device that scrapes the snow up and throws it out of the snow chute.

A snow blower is a "dual-stage" device that has a fan that blows up and leftover snow left on the ground.

We decided on a snow thrower for several reasons listed below:

  • snow throwers have less parts, so they weigh less
  • they are easier to maneuver because they weigh less
  • easier to maintain and fix, also due to less parts
  • the fan feature does not remove a large enough amount of snow to make up for the added weight of the dual-stage blower
  • snow throwers use less electricity
  • throwers are able to clear the driveway more quickly than blowers
  • throwers are not as susceptible to the engine freezing, snow blowers are

The snow blower may be a good fit for you, so I would encourage you to do further research on your own before completely writing them off. But for us, the choice was clearly in favor of the snow thrower.
