Halloween Monster Costumes for Adults

by JoHarrington

There's a monster on the prowl this Halloween night. Let's just hope it's you in one of these wonderful adult fancy dress outfits!

A blood-curdling RAWR and the monsters lumber into view - all jagged teeth and talons, terrifying, dangerous and...

... on closer inspect, really cuddly and with a pronounced line in cute.

We've all seen too much 'Monsters, Inc.' and 'Sesame Street' to be properly scared by monsters anymore. Particularly when Wednesday Addams has already pointed out that the scariest ones look just like you and me.

Nevertheless, check out what's on offer for your monster party costume this Halloween.

Charade's Adult Mini Monster Costumes

These microfiber jumpsuits have been produced by Charades.

Ignore the gender of the models, both outfits are unisex and exactly the same.  You just have to choose between blue or pink (or get both, if you're out as a couple).

Made from 100% polyester, the Adult Mini Monsters costume set comprises three pieces: the bodysuit, which has a zipper at the back and a tie at the nape; the monster face head-dress; and shoe covers.

The gloves are part of the jumpsuit. They're merely furry pieces that hang down.

Naturally these match perfectly the version created for babies and toddlers, which I've high-lighted in the Wizzle below!

Taking a Little One With You?

These little monsters are so cute that you won't want to hide under the quilt! Let your little one be the talk of the party in these infant Halloween outfits.
RAWR! Kids! Choose a young monster costume for Trick and Treating this Halloween - scary, furry and above all WARM in those chill October evenings.

Sesame Street Halloween Costumes | Cookie Monster and Elmo Costumes

I had to include the Sesame Street Halloween outfits, because both Cookie Monster and Elmo had already been featured in my selection of monster fancy dress for babies.  Therefore these are the perfect combos for those going out as a family.

The adult Cookie Monster and Elmo costumes come in two pieces.  There's the plush, fleecy shirts and the over-sized headpieces.

The shirt fastens with Velcro at the back, while the neck and wrists are elasticated for a snug fit. The giant Sesame Street head-dresses close under the chin, again with Velcro.

They are part of a range by Disguise, which also includes Big Bird, Bert, The Count and The Grouch.

Though I've implied that those two are male costumes (aided and abetted by the male models), they aren't.  That range is completely unisex.

More gender specific are the Sexy Sesame Street outfits. Targeting women, these have plush dresses, which finish mid-thigh and include shimmering strands in the fur.

There are also the hair-pieces, with the character faces, and the knee-high pull-up socks.  The shoes aren't part of the package, so you will have to match them from your own wardrobe.

As with the other type of adult Sesame Street costumes, there are a choice of characters. Big Bird, and Oscar The Grouch get this treatment, though I've not yet found The Count and Bert in the same style.

For those with especially deep pockets, there are also these realistic Sesame Street costumes. Elmo and Cookie Monster have both been given the Mascot treatment, with full body suits that are downright professionally made.

However both come with price tags which reflect that, so covet them with care!

Japan Sazac Original Kigurimi Adult Pajamas "Sulley"

Monsters, Inc. Japanese Pajama Kigurimi for Adults

You can wear them for the party, then you needn't bother changing for bed later on!

Kigurimis are the latest big thing from Japan, at least insofar as Halloween costumes are concerned!

The word means 'costumed characters', which is precisely what this pajama outfit is.  I think that we all recognize Sulley from Disney's Monsters, Inc. up there, don't we?

Though they look precisely like pajamas (because they are), the kigurimi is generally used in Japan for partying.  That is why it's being marketed as such in the US and abroad too.  However, don't let that stop you co-opting it as nightwear too.

And, let's face it, they also look remarkably cute and cuddly.  Prepare yourself for more 'awwws' than 'ahhhhs' this Halloween, as you take to the streets in this one.  Despite the models all being female, these are unisex monster outfits, so men jump in there too!

Made from 100% polyester, this costume has been produced by the number one manufacturer of kigurimis in Japan - Sazac.

It has a very softy, fleecy feel; and it will keep you very toasty while you're trick and treating, as well as during those cold winter nights to follow!

Sulley not doing it for you? How about Elmo, the Cookie Monster or our old favorite Japanese monster Godzilla?

Rubie's Costume Co. Leg Avenue Monster Dress Outfits

Let's see how many models can share the same funky purple leg warmers...

Having mentioned the furry leg-warmers, I should point out that none of these costumes comes with them. They're a separate purchase, merely used by the models because they matched the outfits. But what fantastic monster dresses they are!

They are all part of Rubie's Costume Company's Halloween range on Leg Avenue.

In all four of these offerings (there are more besides), you are looking at the dresses and headpieces. Three of them also include detachable pom-poms, which fit nicely onto the monster head-dress with ribbons.

Sexy Polka Dotty

Flirty Gerty

The Sexy Polka Dotty Monster Dress looks fun and cute.  It also has a detail not apparent in the picture.  The stiff tutu skirt is liberally sprinkled with sequins.  These will glitter nicely in the party lights.

The Flirty Gerty Spotted Bodysuit looks more like an ornate swimming costume to me, but all the better for spontaneous dips in a heated pool!  Attached to the back of the costume is a furry tail, which matches the color of the monstrous head-dress.  None of the other dresses have that detail.

Incidentally, don't be startled if you visit that page. It is the right costume, it's just that the images on Amazon have become a little mixed up. Fortunately it's all good here!

Melody Monster

Fuzzy Frankie

Fuzzy Frankie is the only costume featured here which doesn't include the dangling pom-poms. Therefore I'll be downright contrary and choose this moment to tell you about them.

Attached by ribbons to the head-dresses, these double as claws or tentacles. Flirty Gerty makes this obvious by adding palm pads or printed talons amidst the fur.

The Sexy Polka Dotty and Melody monsters patently only have balls for hands (which I can't see doing them a great deal of good on the old evolutionary scale).

What Fuzzy Frankie does have is a beautifully layered skirt; and that whole newness aspect. This has arrived in the stores especially for Halloween 2012.

Also brand new is the Melody Monster mini-dress costume.  This one has the added detail of that green furry strip in the center of the bodice.

Accessorize your Monster Dress Costumes!

It seems a shame not to show them, now they've had such an airing. The leg-warmers come in a choice of four colors, one of which IS the purple one.

It is very eye-catching. It would probably be warmer than it looks as well, because of that hat. We lose so much heat through our heads, that the hat would keep it all in. Quite toasty under there!

Natural_Skin_Care on 10/26/2012

The sexy polka dot is eye catching. I think I could get away with that one on a warm night.

JoHarrington on 10/23/2012

Yes, I can see those on you!

Ember on 10/23/2012

LOL the monster ones with the gogo furry boots and raver hat thingies, :D

JoHarrington on 10/23/2012

Some of the earliest ones that I wrote about are my absolute favorites. Some of the ghost and vampire ones are out of this world. But that's the historian talking. Many of them were old-fashioned dress styles!

How about you?

Ember on 10/22/2012

Oh yes! Pffft, you should've seen what I wore for New Years this year... >.>

And tutus are the best, they make any outfit significantly cooler. :|

Out of all of the Halloween costume articles you've written, what would you wear if you were to dress up for the occasion. Which is your favorite!

JoHarrington on 10/21/2012

I've certainly been known to party on down in a tutu and a top hat before now. I looked fabulous! But yeah, there are few lines to be drawn between sexy and sexy. :)

Ember on 10/21/2012

Huh... I've been noticing a new trend where more and more of young women's sexy costumes have some version of fluffy raver hats and gogo dancer furry boots. I wonder how long this will stick around.

My friend wears these to raves, i think when she's aiming to be sexy or slutty... it is usually literally just a bikini, gogo dancer boots, and a big fluffy hat or something of the like. I think it's a funny step away from a sexy costume quite literally being what is essentially some form of lingerie and a cat tail or mousey ears or what have you, but I wonder how many people actually know that these costumes contain a commonly integral part to a specific type of erotic dancers costume xD ... Actually probably most do. That said, I've always loved gogo dancer costumes, so why not turn them into Halloween costumes? LOL

JoHarrington on 10/21/2012

That's what I was thinking. Forget Halloween, this is every day wear!

JoHarrington on 10/20/2012

They are ridiculously cute, aren't they?!
