Charities globally are going through a bit of a rough time at the moment, and its not because people aren't generous either, there is just simply less money to go around. Almost everybody, whether a private organisation or a not-for-profit, are finding themselves fighting for a slice of a smaller pie. If you run a charity, or work for a charity, then consider taking advantage of other ways that people are willing to help. If your not-for-profit or charitable organisation requires a computer for example, there are quite literally hundreds of thousands of the things being given away each month in the developed world. Instead of replacing those tiring machines with an expensive new machine, use the money for front line services and seek a donation. There are a number US and UK organisations online who allow you to apply for a donated machine, I will look at some of them on this page.
How To Get Free Computers For Charities
Did you know that there are people lining up to give charities free computers to help them with their administrative needs? Here's how you can get one for your own charity.
Free Computers UK
By far the best place to find a free computer, or other piece of computer related hardware, is donateapc where individuals and businesses list items (together with their location) on the site and invite not-for-profit organisations, charities, and educational institutions to apply to collect the item for free. Please note that it is extremely unreasonable to ask for a donor to deliver or pay for delivery of an item to you, unless they are kind enough to offer, you should be certain that you can collect from the stated county when enquiring. You are required to contact the donor by email or telephone numbers provided, please explain the nature of your organisation to them and confirm your organisations formal status. And most importantly, remember that these people are helping you out big time so are owed a thanks! If you have stumbled upon this article and actually have hardware to donate, consider listing it here also! There are also plenty of collection services who encourage applications from charities, educational institutions, and not-for-profit organisations. The best list that I have found has been compiled by the website itforcharities.co.uk where you will find details of organisations in counties all around the UK, as well as national operations.
Free Computers USA
Like the UK, there are many organisations in the USA who collect and distribute old computers to charities and not-for-profit organisations, although unfortunately I couldn't find a decent list. One such organisation is The Computer Recycling Centre who invite applications from any social enterprise company or charitable organisation for a range of equipment including full systems, printers, scanners and other peripherals. Recycles Org offers a listing service in which donors can list items that they don't want, for which you can apply, whilst charities and not-for-profits can list those items which they need. Shipping or collection needs to be arranged by the parties rather than the website, please note that it is inappropriate for a benefactor to ask a donor to pay shipping costs. Since the USA is such a large country, it may be best if you search for phrases such as 'donate computer new york' or 'donate computer florida' etc, you will likely find a local organisation who collects and redistributes PCs.
