If you have found yourself on this page then there is a good chance that you have come here having found a Facebook group which is marked as a 'closed group', you can see some basic details about the group but can't see anything else. In order to see the groups activity you need to become a member.
There are numerous reasons why a group owner may decide to make it private, perhaps they were getting spammers or trolls and want to have more control over who is a member, sometimes they are groups consisting only of people that know each other - in which case you would probably get rejected.

Closed groups simply require you to request to join by clicking on 'Ask To Join Group' at the upper right hand side of the page. The admin(s) of the group can then either accept your request, or send you a message asking why you want to join; if they aren't welcoming new members to the group then you will likely get rejected. Many closed groups are closed purely because the members don't want their posts shared all over the news feeds of friends, you may be obsessed with the color pink, want to join a 'Pink Appreciation' group, but don't want your non-Pink loving friends to get annoyed with your strange obsession. That's a purely hypothetical example, in that respect a closed group is often a more comfortable one to participate in.
