Stuck on how to say I love you? What about saying it in a different language? Here's a few linguistic ways to say I love you.

Can You Say I Love You in Another Language?

Elizabeth Barret Browning once said, 'how do I love thee, let me count the ways,' but if you're not sure how to say I love you to someone or can't think of the right words to use what about honing your linguistic skills?   You don't have to learn a whole new language, just learn the language of love with these 3 simple words - I love you.

If you're trying to impress someone then saying I love you in French, Italian, Cantonese or some other language is a great idea.   Personally my hubby and I have our own way of saying I love you, one simple word - ditto.

Our first date was to see the movie Ghost and the word ditto became our 'I love you', but let's look at what languages you can say I love you in.

Afrikaans – Ek is lief vir jou

Arabic

  • Ana Behibak (to a male)
  • Ana Behibek (to a female)

Cantonese – Ngo oi ney

Dutch – Ik hou van jou

French is probably the 'other language' that people are most likely to know how to say I love you in.   That's because French is considered the language of love and Paris (France's capital) is seen as the city of love.

Although Italian is another language where the phrase I love you is used by many people outside of Italians because it's seen as a language of passion.

Be warned when you use these languages ....... they can be potent!

How Else to Say I Love You

My family use English and/or sign language to say I love you and as I've previously told you my hubby and I have another word that means I love you to us, but sometimes you can say I love you in other ways.

They say actions speak louder than words and doing something to make your partner's life easier is a great way to let them know you love them.   I can remember when my daughter was born my hubby would bring me a snack and a glass of water when I was breastfeeding and that spoke far more to me than him merely saying I love you in any language.

Roses are often used as a floral way of saying I love you and when we first lived together the house we rented had miniature roses growing all up one side of it.   Our hours of work were different as he would start work earlier than me and I would work later then he did - I would be half awake to say good bye to him (sometimes!), but when I woke up fully I would often find a miniature rose on the pillow or on the night stand.    These days it's my morning cup of tea in bed that let's me know he still loves me!

Sometimes we do want to get a card or a gift though and I've compiled a few links to help you say I love you to the person you love -
