Katniss Everdeen's Hunger Games Costumes

Here are some of the other costumes that Katniss Everdeen wore during the movie starting with her Reaping Dress.

Katniss' reaping dress is a vintage blue dress that was her mother's - if you've got plenty of time before you need to dress up as Katniss I would spend some time in thrift stores looking for a dress like hers.

I haven't been able to find an exact replica of her dress online, but the two below are along the right lines.   The first one does need a belt added to it in order to get the look of Katniss Everdeen's reaping dress.

The second dress has the belt, but the sleeves are wrong along with the fact that the blue is too dark.   However if you braid your hair and wear a Mockingjay pin then it will be obvious who you're trying to be.

The Tribute Parade is a place where the tributes really need to stand out so that they can find sponsors and Katniss and Peeta really managed to achieve that with their costumes.

Her hair isn't in it's usual braid during the Tribute Paradeinstead it appears to be in lots of braids that are pinned and arranged in a very Victorian style making her hair seem shorter, like a shoulder length bob instead of the length it actually is.

After the Tribune Parade the Tribunes spend some time being trained and whilst this is happening they all wear the same uniform.

During training Katniss wears the same hair style as she does in the opening scene and during the actual games - a Dutch braid.   My daughter originally thought it was just a side braid and did her hair like that, but it's actually a braid that runs in a diagonal at the back of her head.   Check out how to get this style below.

Now it's time for what is probably the most recognizable of Katniss Everdeen's Hunger Games costumes - the one she wears during the actual Hunger Games.

First of all you will need a pair of cargo pants - olive or green in color coupled with a black (or dark if you don't have black) t-shirt.   Katniss is all about actually getting dirty and hunting so you are going to need some no-nonsense footwear to accompany this outfit and I've found some black combat boots which are ideal.

Next is the jacket and there are licensed ones available for purchase as you can see below which are pretty cool.   If you do have a Mockingjay pin you might want to hide it in the jacket for a really authentic take on Katniss!

As you can see above, I've also included a bow which looks very much like the one Katniss had during the 'games' along with a backpack that she managed to grab at the beginning.

There's also a bag with important supplies in it that she nearly died getting to help Peeta.

Her hair is done in a Dutch Braid and you can see further up the page how to achieve this.   Her actual face is a little dirty and this look can be achieved by smudging on some black make-up on different parts of her face.   Personally I'd just go out without make-up and leave it like that :)
