List of PageRank 10 Websites

by ryank

A complete list of every PageRank 10 website on the net, there isn't many!

'PageRank' unless you don't know is a link analysis algorithm used by the worlds biggest search engine Google; it is named after Google co-founder Larry Page. It assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents in order to measure its importance in relation to a set. The higher the number, to a maximum of 10, the more important a website - or indeed individual web page - is deemed to be. The lowest score that can be awarded is '0', indicating a website which is deemed of no important whatsoever - this is generally the score assigned to a brand new page or domain.

Perhaps irrelevantly, but still very interestingly, the patent for the PageRank process is actually owned by Stanford University rather than Google. Stanford granted exclusive rights to Google for the patent in return for 1.8 million shares, which it famously sold in 2005 for $336m. Very few websites achieve the coveted number 10, in fact the list is believed to have become increasingly shorter. PageRank 9 is now the very best that any new silicon valley start up could hope to achieve in the lifetime of the business, whilst a PageRank of 8 should be deemed exceptional. Achieving a PageRank of anything over 5 is highly commendable.

As an example, even YouTube.com has had to settle for a PageRank of 9; and that is despite the recent acquisition of YouTube by Google themselves! Other sites with a PageRank of 9 include The New York Times (nytimes.com) and Apple.com, whilst the likes of Wikipedia.com and eBay.com are currently stuck with a PageRank of 8. According to the Alexa Top 500 Global Sites list, YouTube.com is the 3rd most visited website globally; according to Quantcast it is the 4th most visited site in the US. So what on earth do you need to do to achieve a 10/10 PageRank? I couldn't tell you, I don't know enough about the algorithm. I am able to work hard at compiling at list of current PageRank 10 websites however, with the help of the PageRank tool from SEO for Firefox and a few Google searches! This list should in now way be consider fully comprehensive, although it will hopefully be considered an interesting list! I attempted to compile this list after reading several references to a list of PageRank 10 websites which was mysteriously deleted from Wikipedia in 2005, I am now going to attempt to replace that source! All information correct as of 4th October 2010.

And that, guys, appears to be it! A random selection of government websites, along with a few individual pages of much wider websites. The AddThis bookmark page (check that out!) seems to be a very strange choice. The only widely used mainstream 'pop' sites if you like are Google.com itself (perhaps inevitable) and Facebook. I was very surprised not to see YouTube on the list. If you have any more PageRank sites that you know about then please do share in the comments box below!

I have a good news: everybody can achieve PR 10. He just needs enough backlinks. It is hard to say how mayn, because this depends on the quality (PageRank) of backlinks too, but if you start with couple of millions you are on the good way:)
