Where To Go and What To See in Nepal

by MidgeFragnet

Nepal is a small country, but the list of tourist places to see are not. Here is your travel guide to this Asian country.

Nepal is a mountainous country in Central South Asia between two gigantic countries China and India. While sunset and sunrise in the sea is one of the treasures of many tourist places and locations, Nepal's asset is that it is a Himalayan country.

The Himalayas are a boon to not only Nepal, but also to the whole world. Not only the Himalayas, the culture, traditions and native spices have created a space in everyone's heart.

Have you ever been to Nepal?

Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur

Kathmandu is located in the heart of Nepal, with the only international airport in Nepal. As a tourist hub, finding cheap flights to Nepal is not difficult. Kathmandu Valley has three cities - Kathmandu, Lalitpur (also called Patan) and Bhaktapur.

Known as the "City of Temples", Kathmandu has numerous temples and monasteries including the durbar squares. Most of them are also enlisted in the UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Sites.

Some must visit tourist places and temples in Kathmandu are:

  • Kathmandu Durbar Square
  • Lalitpur Durbar Square
  • Bhaktapur Durbar Square

Manakamana Temple and Ghadiarwa Pokhari

The only ropeway of Nepal connects to the destined temple of Nepal - Manakamana Temple. Manakamana means the wish of your heart. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Manakamana is believed to grant the wish of those who come to visit her in this divine temple. Not only as a spiritual hub, Manakamana Temple is the place for having a great natural scenic experience.

Lumbini

The holy place of The Light of Asia

Lumbini is the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam who later was known to the world by the name - Gautam Buddha. As the founder of Buddhiasm, Buddha promoted peace and taught his followers to do the same.

The same teaching can be heard in the Lumbini area which now acts as a must visit tourist place in Nepal. The Lumbini area including Mayadevi temple, Ashoka Pillar has been enlisted in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites list.

Chitwan National Park

One of the oldest national parks in Nepal, Chitwan National Park (formerly Royal Chitwan) is home to the rarest and the most endangered animals in the world. I personally like how easy it is to take a breath-taking ride in and around the park on an elephant (see the alongside picture).

What you'll experience in Chitwan:

  • View of endangered animals like Royal Bengal Tigers, Gangetic Dolphins, Wild Elephants, Asiatic Rock Pythons
  • Safari on an elephant. And there comes a moment when the elephant has to cross a river, and it will playfully throw water on his back i.e. on you (such a fun loving animal!)
  • Complete hospitality and lots of affordable hotels
