What Is Planking?
Planking is the latest fad down under. Have you tried it yet? Check out the photo of my first planking attempt, and vote whether or not it is the worst plank ever!
What is Planking?
Planking is the latest fad sweeping the world. In it's simplest form, planking is the sport of balancing oneself in a prone position, generally in unusual locations. Started in Australia, planking quickly spread to New Zealand and other parts of the world. The video below shows many examples of planking, offering a clear definition.
Of course it's not planking without proof, so the next step is to post your planking where it can be found. My daughter's proof is to the right, although I probably should have taken the photo from a lower vantage point so you could see only the corner of the table and her abdominal muscles support her.
Some say planking is harmless fun, others think it is a dangerous disruption to society. There has already been one fatality in Australia when a planker mis-calculated, or simply lost his balance and fell from his fifth floor balcony.

Rules For Planking
The rules are pretty basic
Hard to believe that someone sat down and actually created rules for planking. I don't know that they are official yet. These are rules found in the video above.
Rules for Planking:
- Lie face down expressionless
- Straighten your arms and legs
- Point your fingers and toes
Optional Additional Rules for the More Serious Plankers:
- Give your plank a name (several funny examples in the video below)
- Post it on Facebook, YouTube or some other wide spead social media page

Planking Craze |
I Tried It!
According to the rules above, I only have to be in a prone position, balance wasn't in the formula. So, it looks like anyone can give it a go. Even with my injured leg I gave planking a try, although there is no possibility that I can point my toes. Yes, I will admit, it wasn't a big dramatic balancing trick like so many of the younger people do, but I am not one of those people, and I already have an injury.
And let's not forget, one of the more famous Australian planks, was completed by David Williams (Rugby player) when he simply planked on the field after a try during the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles vs. Newcastle Knights game of March 27, 2011

the plank pic of your daughter is truly cool :)
makes it appear that she is floating above the benches!! cool phot!!
You can see tons more pictures at http://.... I guess it's the next big thing to hit the US from overseas. Pretty crazy.
Planking does not seem to be hurting anybody so why are there these morons that think it should be stopped. The good thing about America is that you can express yourself..pretty much freely. It's kind of a strange way for people to express themselves but I think it's cool. PLANK AWAY AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Planking is adventurous and should be done with utmost care.
Okay that picture of you is hilarious!
There was a huge amount of discussion about planking in the media a week or so ago after a teenager fell from a balcony rail and was killed. According to the person who claims the credit for having invented the craze, it should only ever be in embarrassing or unusual situations, never dangerous ones. The problem with anything that relies on a certain amount of one-up-man-ship to keep it interesting is that those most likely to get themselves into trouble will always try to out-do each other. As with anything like this, no, it should not be stopped (there will always be one idiot) and the phase will will probably end as quickly as it began.

it looks ok. I would never do it but as long as the person keeps safety in mind, I think it is ok.

Well, this is the first I have heard of planking. I don't think it's caught on in North America yet.
