Is it possible to be a plus size raw vegan? Really?  The other day I decided to google ‘plus size raw vegan’ to see if anyone else wrote about such an oxymoron. To my surprise I found an article about a couple of raw vegans who are also plus size – more surprising was that they were okay with themselves. One such lady is a plus size model.

Why the subject of plus size raw vegan? Because, that is exactly what I am. Walk by me on the street and I look like any other obese American. I have little energy to do much and my diet is the Standard American Diet aka S.A.D..

This past month I participated in a 28 Day Raw Transition Diet. For the most part I did pretty well. I love how I feel when eating clean, fresh, raw foods. However, by the time the fourth week came along I stumbled and fell off the ‘clean’ wagon.

This article is not about the ‘Why’ of my stumbling but rather I’d like to present to you in this series of articles the case for a raw vegan lifestyle whether you are raw 10% of the time or 100% of the time. [plus size or otherwise]

Over the past 3 years I’ve tried to cut out my S.A.D. cold turkey and for a while it seems to work. However, inevitably by week 3 or 4 I lose ground and then once again I am haunted by my overeating and addiction demons.

I’m not alone in this phenomenon – most people undergoing a typical diet will attest to the fact that when they start they are filled with zeal and motivation. However, a couple of weeks or even a couple of months into it they slip here and there until eventually they are back to their old habits. [Sometimes even worse than when they started]

Knowing that I struggle with a much deeper issue [i.e. my relationship and addiction with food especially sugar, carbohydrates and salt] I’ve had to come up with alternative means to measure my progress. Is this just a ‘cop out’ for me? Am I just fooling myself? I think not.

No, you aren't raw vegan because you don't eat 100% raw

What's your opinion ...

Yes, as long as you are eating more fruits and vegetables

whatever we can do to change bad to good eating habits works! I hate water but am trying to put it in my diet...not very well but a bit at a time!

After answering the question of ‘Why I want to embark on a Raw Vegan Lifestyle’ I like to answer the following questions along my journey. This will be the subject of the next 5 part series.

  1. Am I eating more fruits and vegetables?
  2. Do I exercise and move my body more?
  3. Do I drink more water?
  4. Is my thinking more positive?
  5. Out of 365 days, how many of those days are life honoring days?

These questions can be asked by anyone transitioning to a raw vegan diet. In the next article I will address the question ‘Am I eating more fruits and vegetables?
