Stainless Steel Coffee Press

If you love french press coffee, the choice is between the glass presses and the stainless steel ones.

Stainless steel coffee presses often double as a thermos, so coffee stays hot for longer. Plus they are less likely to break and they also have more of the look of a "coffee pot" than the glass french presses - the pot pictured above would not look out of place as part of a traditional breakfast service set.

What is more they are easy to keep clean.

Here are the best examples of stainless steel coffee presses..

Bodum Columbia Stainless Steel Thermal Press Pot

This has a capacity of 8 cups (32 ounces or 1 liter). It has an insulated double-wall design, creating a thermos, within which is contained a french press coffee maker, and this has the effect of keeping the coffee hot for about two hours.

It's all made of stainless steel, including the plunger and the coffee filter mesh. They also include a measuring spoon and instructions with the pot.

This versatile pot can also be used to make tea.

La Cafetiere 8 Cup Thermal Coffee Press

With the doubled walled stainless steel carafe forming a thermos, this cafetiere keeps your coffee hot for three times longer than a glass french press.

The styling on this pot is designed to make you think of an old-fashioned silver service. To pour, you just twist the lid into a pour position, pour your coffee, and then twist it shut again. All the parts are made of stainless steel.

Frieling Stainless Steel French Press

This french press also has the double wall construction, creating a thermos effect. It has a 33 ounce capacity and again, all the parts are made of stainless steel including the plunger and mesh.

What's more, the parts all dis-assemble to make it easy to clean.

Bodum Presso Doublewall Stainless Steel Thermal Pot

Another thermal coffee press, this has a 34 ounce capacity.

The shape is more modernistic than the Bodum Columbia featured above, but it works in a similar way, and like the Columbia, all the parts are made of stainless steel.

La Cafetiere Titania French Press

This french press is not thermal - I've just included it because it is so pretty! It's a combination of stainless steel and glass.

As you can see from the picture, you have an etched stainless steel outer case, which holds a glass carafe inside it. The glass carafe comes out of the stainless steel case, so you can wash them separately.

They sell replacement glass carafes too, so that you can keep using this pretty press for years.

My Recommendation

My choice would be the Bodum Columbia Thermal Press Pot if you want a thermal coffee maker. If you are going for prettiness, then choose the La cafetiere Titania French Press.

Using a stainless steel coffee press is a great idea. You don't want to put coffee in plastic or ceramic unless you know the ceramic doesn't have a lead glaze. These presses look great.
