Some History Of The Sugar Industry

Sugar was mostly grown in places like Southern Asia, and the countries near the equator and later spreading out further around the planet. History has it that it was eaten some 5000 years ago in India. Columbus brought the first canes of sugar to the Americas on his second voyage.
In the 17th through the 19th centuries it was boiled down into a syrup. Much slavery went on about this in just about every country that used sugar. You may not know this but sugar is BIG business in the world.
Sugar is used for everything from foods, preservatives, liquor and of course candies and confections to fueling cars and other machines.
By the 1840's sugar was being given to people as samples and pushed into everything you can imagine. Just a few years ago it has been said that most people's diets contain 24% sugar.

Sugar is addicting as the more you get the more you want. There are withdrawal symptoms just as you would have with any addiction and they are listed below. This list will no doubt surprise you as it did me as I was gathering information for this article For instance, I did not know that the only way that companies could sell Ketsup/Catsup was it the product contained sugar. That is one of the FDA's requirements. Did you also know that sugar is used in just about everything that you eat as a preservative? How about cigarettes? Yep they contain sugar!

Aspartame is the worst thing that you can put in your body. It is a poison! In the early 1980's Congress was called on to pass this as a safe product. It was decided by one vote that is was safe. WHAT YOU CAN DO?

Research and more research. Don't rely solely on Physicians and Pharmaceuticals to tell you what you should and shouldn't be taking. Do your own research.
Cut back on your sugar consumption. Find out what things you are eating, drinking and putting in and on your own body and that of you family.
You can also grow your own foods and eat more vegetables. Anyone, in any kind of place can grow their own vegetables. There are special light bulbs that allow anyone to grow vegetables even in an apartment without windows. Grow food on your balcony or in a kitchen window or in a room with a window. Growing your own means you know just what goes on your foods that you eat and what is going into your body and the bodies of your children and family members.

More people should read about this too. Aspartame is NOT a good substitute either. I won't touch the stuff.

I don't like sugar much, I guess I'm just lucky and then again it was never that common in my diet growing up. Maybe I never acquired a taste for sugar. I refuse to drink anything with sugar in it, that is just so weird to me. I can't imagine pouring sugar into my veins like that. Sugar is very bad for the human body indeed. Thanks for delivering the truth on this subject. :)K

Nicely done. I am limiting my sugar intake and trying to eat less red meat and more organic and raw vegetables. Sugar is the silent killer, avoid it as much as possible!

Of all the sweeteeeeners available, I still will take sugarcane over the substitutes. No, you can't get away from it totally, but at least sugarcane is natural-in small does not harmful. Of course, children don't tend to eat suger in small doses. I will keep this in mind if I am diagnosed with cancer or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer.

What a bizarre ingredient for a cigarette, though. That was new information to me. I've known some smokers in my life. I don't recall them ever mentioning sweetness of taste.
