Tips on How to Homeschool for Free

by mysteeqz5

If you are homeschooling your children, are you wondering where you are going to get enough money to buy all that new curriculum for the year?

Are curriculum prices driving you crazy? Can you afford to spend hundreds of dollars on an all in one curriculum package that may or may not work for your child?
A lot of parents are in the same boat as you are, that shouldn't stop you from homeschooling your children. There is a wealth of information to help you homeschool your child for free or almost free.
I say almost free because even if you are able to find everything you need online, you will still need to invest in a very good printer and paper, school supplies such as pencils, erasers, pencil crayons and such. I would recommend a black and white laser printer which is able to duplex, in order to save some paper.
There are numerous sites available online that have resources available to be printed off.

Visit the Library

Now that you have book lists and recommendations, what do you do next? Hit the library. As a homeschooler, the library is our second home. There is no way that I could homeschool without the use of the library. I know that a lot of families like to have all their books on hand for the school year, but we rarely read fiction books twice, therefore, I prefer to borrow them. Of course, this takes more planning on your part to ensure that you place the necessary books on hold when you need them. You may also have to adapt your plan, if the book you are looking for is already taken.

If you've searched the library and found that your library does not carry the book, try their interlibrary loan system. You may be able to request books from other libraries for free or a small fee.

Be careful to watch your due dates, the library can become an expense if you are not diligent about renewing your books.

There are more ways to save money homeschooling, make sure not to rule it out if you are deciding if you will be able to purely on budget alone.

Connect with other Homeschoolers

Do you know any other homeschoolers? You may need to join a local homeschool group to meet other homeschoolers in your area. You never know who may be giving away free curriculum. It may not be in perfect condition but it is probably still usable.

There may be someone who is willing to swap curriculum or lend out items. You never know, unless you ask. There will also be people there who know where to purchase used curriculum in your area as well. They may hold their own sales as well.
