Twitter Suspension

My morning wake up call

I woke up this morning with a number of titles for articles on my mind. It was 5:30am in the UK, and still dark. But hey ho, that is the lot of the internet article writer: the mind never stops thinking of new subjects to write about. Bit of a nuisance sometimes, but, on those rare occasions when a little gem pops in, you just have to get it written down before the thought flitters away into the night, like a moth, seemingly uncoordinated in it's flight, echo-locating its next landing point.

I extricated myself from the bed-covers: they almost won. I removed my ResMed mask (another article there - must write that down - just a minute - OK done), but left it pumping filtered air back into the atmosphere: I was going to return to the warmth of my bed to complete my beauty sleep. I trundled unsteadily to where I undertake my typing, and sat down.

I had left my computer on overnight, as one does when there is something unresolved at the time one finishes for the night. With my memory, this happens more often than not. If I turn it off, by morning I have forgotten that I needed to complete last night's task. But I digress.

I wrote down the titles that had etched themselves on my consciousness and then thought "While I'm up I'll just check what's going on at Wizzley", and there it was. I had received a message in my Wizzley inbox.

The subject line read "Oh dear.": well actually it read "Oh c..p." but I can't repeat that here, as it may get my Adsense account banned - but that's another article in the making.

Oh dear, what could this mean?

Message Contents - Twitter account suspension

I've just been suspended from Twitter

So, with some trepidation, you may remember a previous e-mail I received that caused this same reaction, I clicked on the c..p bit. And it opened. I read it. It said:

"I've just been suspended from Twitter for doing the Twitterfeed thing.

It was working brilliantly. ......... Then I logged onto Twitter to see if I had some personal mentions/DMs. I went to reTweet someone and it suddenly came up that my account was suspended.

I've not received the email as to why yet, but I'll keep you in the loop."

Oh dear, so that's what 'Oh c..p" means. It means the dreaded Twitter account suspension.

Twitterfeed - know the problem - fix the problem

before it is too late
Twitterfeed - fix the problem
Twitterfeed - fix the problem

Knowing What the Problem Is

I suspect I know

And I bet I know why!

My article on "setting up Twitterfeed to promote your business on Twitter etc." was rather long, although those that responded to my poll thought it 'just right', and my specific warning could have been skipped over, or not comprehended, nor understood fully. My apologies. I shall redress the matter and make it more prominent, more 'in your face', so that this situation does not occur with others that take my advice.

[Goes off to the Twitterfeed article to amend it.]

OK I'm back!

My specific warning there was as follows:

"But don't .......creating several of the same process with different 'feed name', ....... do not set the same process to run on several different Twitter accounts, ..... likely to get your account(s) suspended. ..........."

I have emboldened the 'account suspended' portion in the original to highlight what could happen if you do either of the things that are italicised above.

And I bet, when I am updated about the Twitter suspension, that one of those no-no's was the culprit. So, be warned. Be careful. Do not get greedy.

Use the method wisely and it will pay dividends.

Global Warning!

Twitterfeed can get your Twitter account suspended

So I have added a big

Warning notice

on the original article.

And I add an extra note of warning here!

Twitterfeed can get your Twitter account suspended

Abuse the method and it will kick you in the butt.

Global Warming

Sorry - Global Warning!
Global warming - no global warning

Are you now fully aware of the issue?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.
The internet has been usurped by powerful entities and the whole concept of the internet (by the people, for the people) is no longer as it should be.
Same old, same old = when the little people gain power, the powerful people work to remove it from them.
When the little people have power it is but for a short period - we will always be downtrodden by those that seek power beyond that which each deserves.

I have just had my account suspended 3 days prior to an election.

My posts were to some degree repetitious but they were a political message which would reach different demographics at different times of the day across the under hashtags.

If you check the spam act political communication is exempt of the spam act.

There were no monies derived from the tweets. About 10-20 per day. There was no personal attacks and many tweets that were @ were television programs.

It also appears Twitter is removing posts with hyperlinks to particular websites which may impact powerful lobby groups in the US. So much for free speech.

Meanwhile the porn spam bots continue under the same has tag along with the some vial language poster with he most vitriol of language.

Id say I was reported by someone with enough sway to have me canned 2 days prior the election.

I cant see Twitter surviving under this reporting model. Business will need several accounts to prevent suspension.

Now that Twitter are implementing advertising it will only take one of the other big dotcoms to release and improved version before complete collapse.

If I were business I wouldn't invest the time with such volatility in the reporting procedure.

It appears someone with power has had me suspended at a whim.

I cant see Twitter sustaining long term business.

Its a lot to lose.

What a delightful article, I love how you walk us through your life as a writer, I too share the same habits, nice to know I'm not the only one living, breathing and sleeping article content. Thanks for the heads up on twitter feeds.

JoHarrington on 04/03/2012

Yes, that would make sense. Thanks. :)

humagaia on 04/02/2012

It doesn't crop up for me more often than a month because I have between 300 and 1500 items in each feed. That's maybe why you think that resetting it is a monthly thing, as it is for me.

JoHarrington on 04/02/2012

:o For some reason, I had it in my head that it was only once a month. I told MuminBusiness this and she said that seemed a little over-cautious, so I thought I'd better check! All hail MuminBusiness!

humagaia on 04/02/2012

@Jo As often as you want, but you don't reset it, you copy the URL, delete the old one, and create the old one again. I'd give it a day after it has completed.

JoHarrington on 04/02/2012

How often can you reset your Twitterfeed to run a certain stream? After it's exhausted all on the list, I mean.

humagaia on 03/29/2012

Sheri - just by reading and trying it out to see what works and what doesn't. Same as life really. It's all a game, with rules and regulations that you try to break. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Sheri_Oz on 03/29/2012

By the time I'll have figured out what twitter is all about, they'll already be onto something else. How DO you all keep up with all of this?
