by sheilamarie

Waffles are such fun to eat, and waffle irons come in a variety of fun shapes, as well as the traditional round or rectangular shapes. Waffle cones are yummy and easy to make, too.

Does your family enjoy waffles as a special breakfast treat? Have you ever considered serving waffles as part of a supper or a lunch?

No, I'm not talking about those freezer cardboard waffles -- I mean the real thing.

Read on to discover a little different waffle recipe. And find out what great shaped waffle irons you can use to make those waffles even extra special!

Waffles Can Be Part of Any Meal

Not Just Breakfast

Waffles are such a special breakfast treat, but they're not just for breakfast. You can make a number of dishes using waffles as a base. If you start with waffles shaped like zoo animals or Disney characters, you can build pretty amazing sandwiches with a variety of ingredients. Or you can load the waffles up with veggies in a cheese sauce, or chicken in gravy, or any number of supper dishes.

Maybe your kids will actually find meal times have become a lot more fun (and edible)!

Circus Waffles

What a Blast!

What kid doesn't love a circus with its animals and clowns? Many children's stories are written with elephants and lions as characters, and these are the animals you can make with this waffle maker. Clown-shaped waffles will appeal to some children, too.

Kids develop a love for circus animals from a very young age because of how cool they look and the sounds that they make. Clowns and elephants and lions will be performing on your breakfast plates when you make these waffles. Can anyone remain glum when there's a circus going on in the kitchen?

The non-stick surface of this waffle maker is easy to clean. A booklet with yummy recipes comes along with it. The waffles are done in minutes.  Because of its compact design, this waffle iron stores away nicely.

I think shaped waffles would be fun on any of these days.

Pancake Pen

Handy Little Chef's Tool

This "pancake pen" can transform your waffle making experience into an efficient and less messy affair. Imagine being able to put the batter just where you want it to go with no dribbling from a ladle or spoon.

Tovlovo makes this handy little device, which holds three cups of waffle or pancake batter and has a silicone tip that allows the batter to flow freely to where you want it to go. When you use the pancake pen for making pancakes, you can make them perfectly round, or you can make letters or numbers with just a flick of the wrist.

The sides of the pen are clear and have markings in case you want to mix your batter right in the pen. Then you can dispense the batter into your waffle maker. Its tip is heat resistant, so you needn't worry about melting it if it accidentally brushes against the hot surface.

The top and bottom can be removed for easy cleaning, and you can pop it into the dishwasher safely, too.

Good point, Tolovaj! All in moderation!

Tolovaj on 07/26/2012

These for sure look yummy. I love how many options are available. But on the other side... If I try all I want, I would probably need some additional gymnastic equipment, right?
;)

sheilamarie on 07/12/2012

Aren't they fun? You're welcome. Pass the maple syrup, please.

Regi_B on 06/08/2012

I didn't even know these things existed. Wow! Thanks for the info.

sheilamarie on 05/28/2012

Sounds yummy, Marko. I can fruit in the summer/fall so we usually have fruit for toppings, though my husband is a butter and maple syrup fan, so we use both, sometimes at the same time. I like a dollop of plain yogurt on top.

Marko on 05/25/2012

We don't make waffles often but when we do it is usually some winter weekend. We like to eat them with apricot or strawberry jam.

sheilamarie on 05/25/2012

Thanks, Debbie! It really takes less time to make waffles than one would think, especially with a decent waffle iron. I have an old waffle iron, but I'm thinking of getting a shape one for when my grandchildren visit.

Aw, Sandy, you need a mother-daughter breakfast date so you can eat waffles to your hearts' desire.
Katie, I think that batter container is ingenious. You can even measure your ingredients in it and use it to mix them up. Anything that makes the process less messy gets my vote.

sandyspider on 05/23/2012

Both my daughter and I love waffles, but my husband doesn't. So even though I have a couple of waffle irons, they don't get made much.
