We can trace the origin of Jainism to Indus Valley Civilization, one of the most ancient civilizations in the world. This religion was basically for living an ascetic life. Jainism does not believe in creator God. It believes in the birth cycle, soul and its liberation. For every Jain, i.e. the follower of Jainism the ultimate goal of life is Moksha, i.e breaking the cycle of Birth, Death and Rebirth.
Followers of Jainism are peaceful people and they do not like to engage in any violent activities and businesses. They are staunch vegetarians and do not kill or cause to kill any animals.

Wow! Such a great article. This needs further study by me. I am of Buddhist persuasion and I much of what you write resonates with me.
Hi again msankligar, and thank you for another nice article! I've read bits about Jainism here and there, but never put 2 and 2 together. It was great to read your article! Welcome to Wizzley! Hope you'll be posting more soon :-)
Thank you Brend and Sheri for reading and commenting.
This is fascinating. It is interesting to compare the various religious beliefs of India.
I am familiar with Jainism. I remember reading about it with a tutoring student of mine. If only all the religions in the world could be so peaceful and kind.
