Where is God when I need him most? Beginning the search this way is made more difficult because it supposes a limit to God. That is, in saying God is here or there, we impose a limit to God that doesn't in reality exist. It would be better to begin discussing the search for God in some places He is not.
Number one is - He is not in our material possessions. Not necessarily either in our family or friends. Not even in our ideas or expectation of Him revealing Himself to us in a certain way.
In fact, Where God is - in a tangible sense, is all around us. But not in the things.
Not to say these things or the people are not good indicators of God's love and/ or gifts to us. They however are only a manifestation of the things the "promises" of God.
To more accurately complete a search for God we have to reach an understanding of who God is. For that we begin with this verse...
(Psalm 69:20) Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. But instead, they give me poison for food; they offer me sour wine for my thirst.
