About Sheilamarie

by sheilamarie

Oh look! She's coming out of the woodwork and stepping into the light of day! Well, sort of. Sheilamarie is in the midst of a gradual process of self revelation. . . .

I am happy to meet you who has managed to stumble onto this Wizzley page. Here I will tell you a little something about myself and hope that you will write me a word or two about yourself before you leave.

These virtual meetings leave something to be desired, but hello out there. Here is a little bit about the person called Sheilamarie who writes on this Wizzley site.

Hello Wizzley!

I've Been Delighted to Get to Know All You Wizzlers!

I am always a bit hesitant to write about myself online, maybe because I can’t see to whom I am talking and so I feel a little bit exposed. I am a shy person by nature, something I have tried to overcome all my life. But if I am to write online and to enjoy what other people write online, too, then maybe I have a certain responsibility to at least share a bit about myself to the people with whom I am communicating.

I am a poet, though it is very unlikely you will read one of my poems here or on other online sites until I have done a better job in getting them published in a paper journal.

That of course doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy other people’s poetry I read online. It’s just that the process I am trying to follow has a set of rules, one of which is that you can only submit unpublished poems. So forgive me, I am not trying to be snooty. I appreciate other people’s generosity in sharing. I hope to be able to share my poetry, too, someday as part of this community.

I also like to take photographs. I live in an amazingly beautiful spot in British Columbia, near mountains and a lake. All I need to do is step outside my door and I am in a natural paradise. I don’t have a very fancy camera. Someday I may get a better one that can do justice to what I can see around me.

I am also learning watercolor, though I am just a beginner.

I have written some children’s stories -- short stories and longer chapter books.

Other Jobs I've Had and What I'm Up to Now

My On Again, Off Again Working Life

I taught elementary school for a few years and I have taught preschool as well. I spent a year at Dartmouth College as a writing tutor, and was a parent educator with the Parents As Teachers Program for five years. Presently I facilitate a Parent-Child Mother Goose program in my local town and a Nobody’s Perfect Parenting group. These jobs are very part time -- I only get about four months of part time work a year. That is the price I pay for beauty.

That is also how I started writing online. I discovered Squidoo in December of 2009. In the year and a half since, I have made over a hundred lenses and have written on Qondio and Bukisa as well. I also have a couple of Zazzle stores. The Squidoo community has nudged me along with advice and humor to encourage me to keep pushing ahead. I have to admit what started as an attempt to find a way to make a living has turned into quite a lot of fun. I cannot say I have been successful at making much of a supplement to my income by writing online, but I am buoyed along by hope! And I really appreciate those who are successful in their generous offering of advice and inspiration.

And now, through these same Squidoo buddies, I have discovered Wizzley, and am liking what I have seen so far. There are lots of familiar faces here and people I feel I am getting to know better by reading their bio pages.

The Real Scoop

What Else Is There About Me You'd Like to Know?

These are a lot of “facts” about me, but I haven’t told you much about the really important stuff! I have three grown sons, who were the joy of my life as they grew. I have had a really difficult time with the “empty nest” thing, but I’m working on it. I just don’t understand why leaving home has to be so drastic.

I also have two beautiful granddaughters. Although they don’t live near us, I am grateful for the fact that we can skype and can now and then visit.

I grew up in a wonderful large family in the Boston area.

I have been married to the same man for 32 years.

My faith is the center of my being.

What else did I leave out?

This is my granddaughter and I walking along the beach.

Guarded Secrets, thanks for your comments, too. I am considering self publishing my poetry, though I would prefer doing it the more conventional way. However, I'm not getting any younger, and I would like to share. I do have some of my poems online and also had some published as part of winning a local literary contest. I've had a poem in Mslexia in the UK and in some smaller journals, too.
Here's a link to my online poems:
Thanks to everyone else, too, for your comments. You all make a person feel very welcome.

Thank you, SusanM. I really do enjoy working with young children and their families, though unfortunately, my local job possibilities have dried up. I try to share some of what I know through writing these little articles.

I thought you must have had preschool teaching education or similar when I saw your bear puzzle article. Nice review :)

Well that’s what a wizzography is for. And you did a great job making one. I feel I know you now. Another idea for you poetry is to put it all together into a book, like you did with your longer chapter books, as you called them. You're very creative, obvious from your selection of photos for your Zazzle greeting card. I noticed.

Nice meeting you and you're braver than I for I haven't done a profile page yet. I look forward to reading more both here and on Squidoo. Your photos on Zazzle products are beautiful.

I love your writing style and am happy to get to know you. I will definitely check out your zazzle stores. I do hope your aspirations of supplementing your income really take off soon. That is my hope, too, and I believe with lots of perseverance and talent, these things will happen. Your photography is beautiful, too, great perspective. All the best to you!
