Parent Estrangement-A Hidden Epidemic
Thanks Sheri...that's great news! Our daughter, our estranged son's bio sister, was here with us this summer with her family for a month. (These are my husband's two bio children.) The son was in town for that time, too. She spent time with him and they had a 40th birthday party for him at his inlaws. Though the bio mother was invited, his father was not, yet his father is the one who raised him after his mother left. The bio mother also told our daughter during this visit that she wanted a mother/daughter relationship with her again. Our daughter told her it was too late for that at 37 years old but she would try to be her friend so they spent some time together. However, our daughter sat and talked it over with me first because she wanted to be sure that I knew how she felt. That is the difference between our son and his sister. He never talks and refuses to but she always talks out her feelings. I think this is probably why she has handled things so much better than her brother. It's a mess and I truly think their bio mother is at the bottom of the problems but we cannot dispute what she tells him and he has need of her acceptance psycologically...he must find this out for himself. I am glad that the couple found some closure...discussing your feelings openly and listening is always best. Hopefully, someday, our son will realize this, too.
