@Brenda: To be honest, I don't know about the origin of this craft. However, I remember admiring these soap baskets at my grandmother's place as a child. I used to take them in my hands and examine them carefully. When I grew up, they caught my attention again (yes, they can last for more than 30 years and they don't collect much dust) - I knew I had to continue our family tradition and learn how to make them. Thanks for commenting and welcoming me :) I already enjoy Wizzley very much - it's almost addictive lol

@katiem2: Do let me know about your progress! I'm so glad you're inspired to try out this ribbon craft project. Don't forget to post the photos you'll make - maybe even a follow-up wizz on new ideas? If you get stuck or have any questions, I'm right here :)

@wisefool: What a paradox in your username - quite eye-catching :) I'm glad you like the soap baskets. I'm hoping to create even prettier designs by carefully choosing the material to work with. It takes me about 2 hours to make one ribbon soap basket, but I believe that it will take me less time with practice. I was thinking about trying to sell them.

That is beautiful. Who ever thought that up? Welcome to Wizzley. You will definitely like it here.

@Angie: Thank you for welcoming me, Angie :) Let me know what your aunt thinks about this craft project. Material costs are low, but one needs to invest time.

I spent 2 days making the wizzley video above. Generally for a 3 minute video I can spend all day building it. The time gets smaller as you develop your skill set. I come to realize things I should have done before editing i.e. in how I shoot the video that can make all the difference in the world and those save time. For example I realize I can record and keep repeating something until it comes out the way I want to "print" it, later I'll edit out all but the best one (and sometimes it's not the last one)... You also think ahead the whole time i.e. cause effect on the timeline.... You can easily lose and entire day in even a 3 minute video so yes 3 hours sounds about right. Whats the url to your video I'd like to take a look :)

I love this project, soap gift baskets are on my list of new things to learn this year. I'll be coming back here to class often till I get it. Thank you so much for sharing your beloved family tradition.

Jasmine, I was released from therapy recently, 9 months and now I'm flying solo. This happened in July of 2011, will be one year this July. It's been a difficult year with intense determination. Great to have you here at Wizzley!

This type of tool boxes is our garage tools, some are for small stuff's and the others for medium sizes.

Jerrico, I made a video for HP using Movie Maker and I guess it was real easy to figure out. But, it would help people getting started. It took me 3 hours for a 5 minute video - is that normal? That's why I never gave it a go again :D

I'll keep that in mind 2uesday... I'm thinking of doing one with windows movie maker since anyone with windows will have it already (and that's where I started), then do a series of how to videos's/articles, then move into camtasia later... Both movie makers are great but I think WMM is easier for the complete newbie to editing... This will take some time to plan out and execute but I'll start this weekend

If it's a flat screen it's likely LCD, unless it's a Mac.

Thanks so much for all this great information. Lots of stuff here I didn't know, such as the origins of the red carpet. And, although I had heard that Red Riding Hood's colour was associated with the notion of her becoming a woman (menstruation), I'd never thought to extend that to 'red = maturity' in more general terms. So, I found this fascinating, Tolovaj!

Hello there! They look absolutely amazing. I'm not sure if I have the patience or the talent to make one that looks that good, but I'd love to give it a try.

Hello Jasmine, it's always a great pleasure to hear from Shakespeare lovers. You bring up a good point, actually, another secret to reading Shakespeare is to read it more than once, because you can't expect to get it all first time around - there's just too much in his plays; so many layers and little nuggets, that cannot be absorbed in one sitting. Glad you enjoyed him, and I'll bet you can still remember many of those quotes!
