Author Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

I think you made a good point here "Hit the target and it is unlikely to be harmful." humagaia. The only think that could be harmful would be if people obsess so much over their rankings that they forget to hit the publish button for new content ;-)

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

Thanks Meagan for the confirmation. I did notice you there....often. But had dismissed it as being a quirk of fate, but now I realize my mistake and acknowledge that Ed Choice is a major boosting factor. Hey Ed., when you gonna' choose me? I jest (well I am just a little sad Ed has not deemed any of my offerings to be worthy. But then again I have not yet written anything vaguely entertaining. My articles are about making me money. And that does not necessarily mean being popular with the Ed. That's my excuse, and I am sticking with it!).
I am glad the articles are being of assistance. More to come, eventually. Now off to write an earning article.
Best H.

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

Thank you humagaia - I'm really getting a lot out of these articles. And I just wanted to second Jo's observation that Editor's Choice awards directly influence - actually are the major determinant of - Best Author ranking. I was baffled as to how little old me could be 4th on that list before I was even close to an author score of 100 and being so low on all other metrics you could think of (few articles, low traffic, few fans / comments, never popular or buzzing). It could only be the Editor's Choice awards (THANK YOU editorial team!!)

Article Score : How is it calculated?

Where they receiving likes, or lots of traffic - that would add to my dataset. Lots of traffic = > 100 pageviews / day (I have data up to that level).
If they received likes then was it 5 or more?

Author Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

As in the comments made below, or on one of the other 'score' articles - I am merely arguing the case for the plaintiff. The relevance or otherwise is subjective. You should make your own mind up. If striving to achieve your high-score makes for a better experience for the reader, then it has achieved it's goal. If it achieves better results in sales or adsense clicks, then it has achieved it's goal. If it ...... you get the picture.
Whether it is relevant or not, it is there to be aimed at. Hit the target and it is unlikely to be harmful.

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

My pleasure Jo. You are absolutely correct, data and it's analysis does help us all, and I will shout when I need. Since we are both in the UK the time zones won't distract us - we can chat when the US is asleep.
The only issue with data is whether or not it has been interpreted correctly. Do not accept my interpretation as gospel. Having the data available will allow you to validate the authenticity of my interpretation against your knowledge of your reality, data-wise.
Keep tweeting!!!!

Article Score : How is it calculated?

Another useful article! Thank you. I have had pages go to 100% without comments, but they take much longer than those which are buzzing.

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

Glad to be of assistance. Just shout up, if you want me to check anything else. As far as I'm concerned, sharing data means that we all get to raise our game and that can only help us individually and Wizzley as a whole, in the long run. Thanks for taking the time to analyse it all.

Yes, you did inform. You've given me lots of food for thought with both articles.

Oh! I hadn't thought to keep Tweeting after the first one. *makes a note* Thanks!

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

Jo - good to see you here.
Thanks for the additional data. I had no data on the Editor's choice subset - due to not receiving any, so that snippet will help - although I am putting the whole analysis bit to bed on these subjects = Author Score + Article Score. It was evident from looking at the 'Best Authors' page that Ed's Choice had a positive bearing on the positioning of those that had reached the 100 mark - a differentiation that boosts mere best authors to la creme de la creme, perhaps.
Your observation on them may be a little different to mine, in that I think that anyone on the same author score will be differentiated by the number of Ed Choices they have received. Two authors on 90 for instance would be further ranked by their received Ed Choices (an author with 1 EC would rank higher than the author with no EC's). That ordering of rank will be influenced by other factors like: time at site, number of Wizzes, quality of articles (average score perhaps), etc etc, for which I have no data, and for which I can't be a...d, sorry bothered to find out about.
This article was to inform, and I hope it achieved it's goal.
None of us should put too much time into worrying about them, you the least, as they have placed you at the top of the pile, sorry, rankings. No inference meant.
Now tweeting is another matter. Do not just tweet your article as it is published. Tweet it at least once a day for at least 3 weeks to a month. And I suggest that you use URL shorteners such as bit.ly, goo.gl etc as these can be relevant to backlink strategy, t.co for instance does show as a backlink to the article for which it's short URL was produced.
More on that in a future article.

Author Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

Re 'Relevance 3' - no pressure then! *scared face* :p

Thank you for this. It was a wonderful confidence boost first thing in the morning. It's made me feel inordinately proud of something that I had no idea I was achieving.

Yes, I was aiming for 100% scores, but that's mostly because they are there to get. (Gamer mentality...) I hadn't realised that there were so many benefits underlying them.

Article Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?

I'm finding these articles fascinating. Naturally there's a vested interest, because you're using me as an example, hence you're showing me stats that I hadn't noticed. But even if you weren't, I'd be glad of it. At this stage, it's all about learning all I can about the site!

You queried the number of likes on the 'Tips and Tricks...' article. It currently stands at 21 likes and 34 comments, six days after being published. This is an exception, rather than the norm though. For example, the one I wrote immediately afterwards has only 3 likes and 2 comments. I hope that helps with your analysis.

One point I'd query, based on my own observation, I think that the Editor's Choice/Best Author thing is the other way around. I have five of them and each time, it's pushed me further up the author list. After 3, I got a rosette next to my name, which appears to have put me permanently on the first page.

So Editor's Choice = author page ranking, rather than vice versa, I think.

I do agree with your advice to Tweet etc. Every one of my articles has been spammed across the social networking sites, as soon as they go live.

Target Audience - Are you Writing for the Right Market?

The missing 55+ age group is missing from Wizzley because it is missing. What I mean by that is that my stats are based against the norm i.e. of those 55+ that do surf, much less of that group come to Wizzley than they go elsewhere, on average. My stats do not show that they are missing as a whole per se. Just that they do not seem to use the platforms we write on to obtain their fix.
It is relevant therefore, that if you are writing for that demographic, your articles / blogs should perhaps be produced on sites where that demographic does it's socialising. Your method of finding where your target audience resides can be undertaken using sites like Alexa. Type in each site you find that may be hiding them, the pensioners residences of the internet, and see if the audience demographics section shows you a big green graphical representation that they are there.
This is similarly true for any demographic for which you think you might be missing the target.
