How to Make Chocolate Orange Cupcakes

Step 1) Purchase or make up a batch of chocolate cupcakes. Here's a recipe if you don't already have one you like to use >> Chocolate Cupcakes Recipe

Step 2) Let the cupcakes cool down completely on a wire rack before you attempt to add your orange buttercream topping. If you add the buttercream frosting when the cupcakes are still warm, it will start to melt and run off the cakes.

Step 3) While the cupcakes are cooling, make your orange buttercream frosting >> Orange Buttercream Recipe. If you want a strong orange color for the frosting, then you'll need to add in some orange food coloring.

Step 4) Either pipe the buttercream onto your cupcakes (video on icing swirls on cupcakes to the right) or just spread a very generous amount over the top with a blunt knife or spatula which is what I normally do.

Step 5) Using your fingertips, drop some chocolate shavings or chocolate sprinkles on to the orange buttercream icing. You can buy packs of chocolate sprinkles but I prefer to grate my own chocolate bars (normally Green & Blacks chocolate) to use as decoration on cakes.

Step 6) An orange cupcake wrapper will finish off your chocolate orange cupcakes to perfection. I hope you've enjoyed reading my wizzles page today, thanks for your visit. Mmmm, enjoy!

Will you Make Some Chocolate Orange Cupcakes?

Marie on 04/22/2013

I'm so sorry Katie for the loss of your Mom. But that is such a beautiful thought and something that may make your sister's birthday a much nicer one. Birthdays can be very hard when loved ones are no longer here to share them. My husband's Mom passed away last year and I know how difficult it has been since the grief can come at unexpected moments. Hanging on to cherished and good memories can really help.

My sisters birthday is May 23, her favorite cake is orange chocolate. I've never made one but my Mom made the best ever. She passed away a little over one month ago. It's times like these when you really long for memories of Mom. While my Mom passed far to young and is no longer here to bake my sisters traditional orange chocolate cake I can grab the torch and make these delicious cup cakes. I love cup cakes.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this, thanks for making it possible for me to carry on a much beloved birthday condition.

They would look especially nice for Halloween or Thanksgiving. Thank you 2uesday :)

These would look good on a party food table, especially if they fitted in with a color theme.

Thank you PinkChic :) I love the orange and chocolate combination mmm.

Pinkchic18 on 07/13/2012

Yum! It's a combination I would have never thought of, but it actually sounds delicious!

Marie on 06/01/2012

These are definitely yummy, Tolovaj. However we all have very different tastes so perhaps chocolate orange isn't the best combo for you. Luckily chocolate goes so well with many flavors: chocolate and mint, chocolate and cherry, chocolate and coconut, chocolate and coffee .... mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Tolovaj on 05/29/2012

I found combination of chocolate and orange a little tricky and have tried really yummy and not so fortunate sweets with this taste. Looking at the photos I can only imagine how good they really are.
They certainly give an impression they belong to the 'yummy' group!
And now, please, excuse me, I have urgent business in the kitchen...

Marie on 05/06/2012

Mmm chocolate and strawberry is a delicious combo too, Brenda. If you love a bit of a fruity tang then chocolate orange will suit you. Thanks for your visit.

BrendaReeves on 05/05/2012

These look delicious. I love chocolate and strawberry, and I imagine chocolate and orange would be just as good.
