Let's Make Dulce de Leche (Candy of Milk)

by CorreenK

Dulce de leche is a decadently sweet and oh so addictive dessert sauce sure to please all caramel lovers and sweet tooths. You are in for the sugar high of your life!

Drizzles or spoonfuls...it's up to you.

See that can below...filled with a caramel colored sauce? It's my homemade dulce de leche. Literally translated it means candy of milk.

And OMG! what a taste fiesta that reminded me of the soft caramels wrapped in waxed paper that I always seek out when my family and I are playing at the Oregon coast.

I think if I'd cooked it another hour or so it would have had the consistency of those soft caramels versus the rather addictive confectionery sauce that literally drizzled off my fork.

There is always next time to try that, right?

So...without further ado here are the steps to make this sweetly-kissed homemade dulce de leche.

Easiest Dulce de Leche Recipe Ever!

Easiest Dulce de Leche Recipe Ever!

Prep time 2 min  -  Total time 242 min
Ingredients for 10 servings
1 can sweetened condensed milk

- Peel paper label from the can of condensed milk and toss label into your paper recycle bin.

- Pop a couple of holes in the top of the can. This allows evaporation as the condensed milk is cooking.

- Place vented can in a small saucepan and fill to a 1/4 inch or so from top of can with boiling water. Avoid getting water into holes.

- Set saucepan on low-heat, just so water is barely simmering.

- Simmer for 1 to 4 hours, adding more water as needed. The dulce de leche thickens and turns a darker caramel color hour by hour. (I simmered mine for 3 hours)

- Try stirring in a couple of teaspoons of real vanilla extract or dark spiced rum to enhance the flavor.

- Serve hot or cold...that's it!

♥ Spoon leftover sauce...that is if you have any leftover, into a jar, seal and store in refrigerator.

My mouth is watering. Your page looks all caramel like down to the font color and background. I have never tried to make Dulce de Leche.

Dear Lord! Tomorrow I'll have a doctor's appointment to get the results of my recent blood test (cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.). I better make me the last can tonight!
