Fibroid Cure

Many women find a natural fibroid remedy is preferable to the side effects of drugs or surgery.

Fibroid tumors, although benign (non cancerous), can cause pain, heavy bleeding, and affect fertility. Many women opt for a natural fibroid remedy rather than have surgery or deal with the side effects drugs.

What Is a Fibroid?

Uterine fibroids are non cancerous tumors that occur in women during their child bearing years. Although it is not known why they occur, their growth is dependent on estrogen, so they may continue to grow until a woman reaches menopause.

Often a woman will not have any symptoms and be unaware that she has fibroids until discovered during a pelvic exam. If there are no problems, a doctor will most likely just monitor the condition during yearly exams.

Unfortunately, women often do experience physical symptoms, especially with larger fibroids. These symptoms include --

  • heavy menstrual periods
  • a full feeling in the lower abdomen
  • frequent urination
  • lower back pain
  • infertility, miscarriage, or early labor
  • chronic constipation

Treatment of Fibroid Tumors

Your doctor will take several things into consideration in treating your fibroids such as your age, health, severity of symptoms, and if you want children. Treatment usually begins by addressing the symptoms--

  • Hormonal therapy to control bleeding
  • Iron supplements for anemia
  • Medication for pain relief

A class of drugs called "gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists" (GnRHa) is commonly used to shrink fibroids. Basically, these drugs suppress estrogen production. Lupron is one of the most popular drugs in this class. The side effects of Lupron, which are typical for this class of drugs, include bone thinning, hot flashes, and depression.

Most women want to preserve their fertility so a complete hysterectomy -- removal of the uterus -- is a last resort. Common surgical options for treatment include the following --

  • Embolization -  cuts off the blood supply and the tumor shrinks
  • Myomectomy - removes the fibroid and leaves the uterus intact
  • Hysterectomy - complete removal of uterus and possibly fallopian tubes and ovaries

These days many women find themselves suffering with conditions that have unbalanced hormones as a root cause. There are many reasons for this but primarily our water, cosmetics, and food have trace amounts of hormones in them.

There are natural remedies for fibroids that do not involve drugs or surgery--

Herbs - The herb vitex can be very helpful in balancing hormones and reducing estrogen levels. Other herbs such as nettle and yellow dock help to detoxify the body and reduce heavy bleeding due to fibroids

Diet - A good diet is the basis of good health. Fibroid sufferers should consume foods low in fat and high in fiber. There are thousands of food additives that can imitate estrogen, so eating organic food will eliminate these from your diet. Additionally, certain foods will actually help shrink fibroids.

Aromatherapy - Aromatherapy is far more than sweet smelling soaps and lotions. Essential oils from such plants as ginger, rose, and marjoram stimulate circulation and can be used for pain relief in abdominal compresses.

Considering the cost of drugs and surgery, it's worth a try to heal your fibroids with natural remedies. You can always opt for more invasive treatments, but you may not need them if a natural fibroid remedy will work.

Adipose tissue feeds fibroids, so it pays to exercise more, and lose weight. Liver function is also very important in the balance of estrogen.

Fibroids are caused by too much estrogen in your system, arn't they? I wonder if hormones in food are the culprit.

I'm all for natural non-invasive treatments that work! Believe me, if somebody says "cut", I explore ALL MY OPTIONS first!

@NausetViews - Yep, ask a surgeon what to do and the answer is always surgery.

NausetViews on 08/10/2013

You are absolutely right @Holistic_Health Doctors typically just want to cut out the problem, rather than trying to find alternative non-invasive treatments.

Holistic_Health on 06/25/2013

@WriterArtist 2 Doctors often want to do surgery without trying anything else.

More and more women have fibroids nowadays, the reasons might be the sedentary life style, and others. Natural remedies are more than welcome.
