When I post to my blogs there is a feature where I can view what it will look like on when viewed on a 'mobile'. From editing my blogs to suit this feature I need to seek advice from people with more up to date mobiles than mine.

Now more people are online on mobiles and tablets, from a reader/viewers point of view -  is it best to line images up to the left?  Rather that is than having them in the center or I would guess worse still to the right of the layout.

It looks on the blogger mobile preview as if images on the left of the page is the way to go.

  • When you view a blog etc. on a mobile does it cut off images on a wide page that are too far to the right?

I guess I really should stop using my old phone and get a new one.

Depending on the format settings for displaying websites on a mobile device used in a blog (such as say Wordpress) usually mobile devices will cascade a website into a format suitable for viewing on a mobile.

In other words, a picture will be left, center or on the right when viewing on a PC computer, but will display in the center on a mobile. Otherwise the format will appear on a mobile exactly as it does on a computer (with much scrolling and zooming on the mobile device to look at the website)

It all depends on the blog platform you use (and the theme, should you be using self publish WP).

My main blog is on SP WP using a 'Responsive' theme (GoSense). There are a number of 'responsive' themes available, all of which do all the mobile conversion work for you. If you don't use a 'responsive' theme on your WP blog, I strongly suggest that you convert over to one that best suites your needs.

Basically, the mobile view starts with the central core of your blog (the real content) and then scrolls the left column and then the right column beneath, so the total effect is a single column on a non-PC device. The pictures, as far as I am aware will fit the available space (i.e. reformat to fit) in all cases (whether they are in the left, central or right columns).

As far as I know, this is how all mobile conversions work (to a lesser or equally competent manner). I am not aware of there being any significant difference if an image is placed in different locations within the blog. The conversion process should establish the optimum width for mobile display and convert all content to display correctly in that optimum.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both as it is helpful. I did not want to spend time making adjustments that were not needed. You have also given me things to think about for when I am working on the blogs in the future.

I just wanted to add that I have pasted your answers into word and saved it so that I can reference it in future, thank you.

I love love love responsive wp themes! (I use iRibbon) it literally loads the html based on the device detected it's showing on (wizzley is a responsive theme but not wordpress) our wizzles always look right on any device- they use html5 to do this very easily and uniformly (responsive themes/code that is)
