As you may have noticed, I'm quite keen on the Manic Street Preachers.  A fan has messed with one of their most famous tunes to pay tribute to the German football team. I thought it might find favor in these parts.

Mertsecker Emptiness!

(And for those downright heathens, who've never heard the original, here it is too.)

*Grin*.

I'm not known for my football knowledge, but I do wonder whether Brazil turned out for tonight's match or whether that was a team of imposters.

Was Neymar really their answer to David Beckham at his height, where if Beckham was injured, England were lost?

Is that the poor love who broke his back? :(

I actually watched this game. My Twitter stream was going yampy, so it seemed rude not to.

If fracturing a vertebra counts as 'breaking your back' then yes, he's the kiddie.

Mind you, the way other players were going for him, it was only a matter of time before he broke. Either that or the weight of carrying all that expectation on his shoulders caused his spine to pop out of alignment...

I'd not want to see the German hangovers this morning, come to that.

I'm sure there will be a few inquests in Brazil after this. I bet their team are glad they don't live in the kind of society where sporting losers are disappeared or falling on your sword is customary in defeat.

And the amazing week of sport goes on with the epic stage of the Tour de France over the cobblestones today. Grand excuse to complete a load of ironing with one eye on the TV but I think I might have been shouting a tad louder at the box than I was during the footie last night...
