Chatter away, friends!

I know I promised not to mention the 'other site'....

And neither do I enjoy that being discussed here..... but last week I had a few remaining niche accounts deleted, and I've seen many decent hubbers come over to Wizzley recently, having had their accounts closed.

I'm not sure if that was political / because they belonged to a one-time pretty vocal 'traitor', or because they considered the content to be overly promotional (I didn't even get an email, just deleted, neither a reply to my email asking why). My primary account was of course closed out of choice, I wasn't forced to remove that.

(They are deleting thousands of accounts a day right now, for some strange reason).

I was browsing the web today and found this gem: http://imiloje.hubpages.com/hub/Funny_Online_Games

Four years old. Enough to make any of the hp exiles on here top themselves, right? What a damning indictment. That couldn't happen at Wizzley, as in actually wouldn't technically be possible. It wouldn't even be possible on my little knocked-together multi-user wordpress site, thanks to a nifty free plugin.

The outgoing links make it even worse.

LOL, that last paragraph was a bit cryptic (or my brain isn't kicking in for some reason), but wow, to purge thousands of accounts a day is insane. They are boasting that 50k people find hubpages every day, maybe they are getting too arrogant for their own good?

I hate to see what used to be a phenomenal site turn into a cancer cell for anyone who chartered (first group of writers) there or planted their time and energy to create hundreds/thousands of hubs only to find themselves with a pink slip- and for what?

Wizzley is my new home, I feel comfortable here, I don't feel my time now is going to be wasted later and I feel so connected to this site that I want very badly to see it excel, exceed, and blow the rest out of the water. I'm a Wizzley knight in that respect...

We need an insignia badge like the Cardasians (deep space 9) wore, but until that happens this will do (for women anyway):

By the way, the sites name and "theme" wizards and such... just begs for a wizzley zazzle store... just sayin... shirts, jewlery, mugs that say "Writing Is My Life" or something... could build some revenue for the site and give us fans something cool to wear to show our pride in... the pride land? haha

"50k people"

Think around 500k is more accurate (as per Quantcast), my account used to get 25k a day alone!!

Yes, I'm watching as their number of published hubs and authors falls sharply daily, they are purging. I have no idea what they are purging, it's like a content holocaust.

Top right, updates daily: http://hubpages.com/about/team

I doubt they are gaining 500k new members a day...

They are at:

  • 1,219,457 PUBLISHED HUBS
  • 183,156 PUBLISHED USERS

I put that here so I can check back in a week to see if the number changed :)

Look Wizzley, we only need another 184,000 users/authors... that shouldn't be hard well with all the newly unhubploid people out there...

Well obviously not 50k members per day, thought you were talking about traffic, because 50k a day would be ludicrious....

Yes that's the page I'm monitoring, it's interesting, they had 1.22m hubs yesterday.

They may be juicing their numbers like AOL did back in the internet connection war days- they'd count every "free" signup and "paid" membership- in other words if you signed up for just messenger service or aol email, but not the internet service provider service (with shell) they'd still count all those people collectively in their numbers. Although technically accurate, it's deceptive. I think they are counting hubs as "created" not "published" in this respect and I think they aren't deducting hubs that never publish or that are deleted...

I have a hard time believing 50k writers are joining HP every month, their wording is suspect too.. "50k people are finding hubpages every day!" as that would include the readers not signups or new authors...

What they should put is the statistic: 50k people leave hubpages every day haha...

yea 50k a day is ludacris, they have to do tens if not hundreds of thousands at least, I was doing 2500 on one hub by itself every day (now it's reduced to a wizzley paper weight for the moment).

You freaked me out when you said they deleted your articles/accounts, I had to go check to  make sure I could still access my others, whew, they are still there :)

Jerrico, I don't understand where you are getting 50k from?

The point in my post by the way, was merely to point out how ludicrous it is that decent writers have been given the chop, while content such as that exposed by my link lasts for four years.

I meant 50 million (they have a tag line next to every hub that says "50 million people find HP every month)... my brain is tired...

I get your point, it's rediculous that that page stays up while good ones come down... but just one more reason we love Wizzley- no Bull :)

wow they lost OVER 1,000 authors and 10k articles (or more I did the math in my head)

coincidentally, Wizzley gained 2,000 authors and 30k articles (I hope haha)

Here are more accurate stats:

  • Published Hubs: 1,217,922
  • Forum Posts: 2,150,452
  • Total Users: 2,245,610
  • Published Users: 182,181
  • Hubs with 10,000+ Hub views in the last month: 339
  • Hubs with 1,000+ Hub views in the last month: 8,045
  • Hubs with 100+ Hub views in the last month: 70,117
  • Hubs with 10+ Hub views in the last month: 343,954

I'd want to check out the number of hubs that are getting 10k and 1k plus views lets see after a month.

Should be a box to check that allows us to permanently subscribe to any thread we post/reply to, right?

Most places it's defaulted to subscribing if you post but you can unsubscribe, I'd like to see a profile/settings option to auto subscribe to anything I post to :)

I've heard on the grapevine that they are shedding 'inactive' accounts.

Which is a bit of a kick in the teeth to anybody who intentionally created evergreen content, right?

I can see their logic in terms of freshness etc, but there will be lots of decent accounts get caught in the crossfire.

I hope inactive means ones that are not logging in :)

I assume that it would be this, but what if you don't have hub ads, have comments disabled on all of your pages, and wrote about truly evergreen topics?

I can actually think of one hubber who created dozens of accounts just like that. I've actually messaged him today with a heads up, in case he gets caught up.

There would be no reason to log on if you don't have comments to approve, can check your stats in analytics, and use adsense and/or amazon as your means of monetization.

So while no doubt that would be a small number of people, it is still a number of people. Doesn't matter whether that number is 5 or 50 or 500, it's still a kick in the balls to have your work undone at the click of a button and potentially see your income fall too....
