I'm confused about moderation

The very first impression I got of Wizzley was quality. And then I learned that new members' first five articles were held for moderation. Good idea. I was surprised when my first article (after my Wizzography) was published immediately, but figured it slipped by moderation somehow. A glitch? This morning I take a look at the new articles, because it's interesting to see what people are writing about. What do I see? Two articles by someone who's been on the site for three hours. Very poor English, and no breaks between paragraphs.

An article by someone who's been on the site for four hours and whose name clearly states their intent, which is promoting their own business. This article is, in fact, a long advertisement for the business, and includes address, phone number, website, and a large number of empty modules, all of which repeat the name of the business. How is this not pure spam? And what happened to moderation? Or have I misinterpreted what moderation means?

Edit: Another "article" consists of a title, an introduction which really says nothing, and then a random list of products available from Amazon.

The articles go live on the site immediately, which is where we all see them and can jump in on inappropriate ones.

But they aren't listed on any of the search engines.  They are as internal as, say, a post on the forum.

None of these will go live in the SERPS (including your Wizzography), until a member of the Wizzley staff has personally looked at it.   Five articles in, then the staff have a good idea who you are and how you can be trusted.  That's when a box is ticked and you're live!

After those five articles, you can immediately have an article listed in the SERPs.  My record to date is about nine minutes before it appeared on Google.

Naturally, even after this time, if there's a problem, then Wizzley will pull it.   Achim said somewhere that he pulls as many articles as he lets though.  There are people all over the internet complaining at his too strict standards accordingly.

A newby mistake. I appreciate the explanation, Jo. Maybe the information about moderation needs to be a bit clearer. I got the impression that articles didn't appear here until they'd been moderated.

Too strict? Not at all. I'm very glad there's a site that claims to aim for quality, and actually does it. No complaints from me.

It's all good.  I'm glad that you did ask, as there are probably dozens of other people wondering the same thing at the moment.  In answering you, it answered the question for them too.

The 'new' listing is a little like a river-bed nearly panned.  It hasn't been shaken yet to sift out the golden nuggets.  You're better off with the 'popular' listing, as those are the ones attracting attention in comments, likes etc, or the editor's choice listing, which is where the bosses of Wizzley tell us what sort of articles they like best here.

Unfortunately, most spammers post their crap during my sleeping hours. I live in Austin, TX, so that means Central Standard Time. Anne (nightowl) lives in CA and is a night owl. She catches them while I'm catching my dreams.

However, in the wee morning hours, nobody's watching. So, when I get up, after my cig and coffee, I start swinging the hatchet. The pages and authors you've mentioned before are now gone. Good riddance!

Jo explained it very well: No crappy or spammy new pages can get indexed by Google.

Most days I'm done with my clean-up by noon, CST.

Your first article got approved so quickly because I read it the moment you published it.  Smile

It's nice that you do get to sleep, chef. I imagine axe-swinging goes better after that first cup of coffee. For me, it's tea. And the quck approval -- Wow!

I am so glad to receive this info. I don't want to write for another site that proclaims it only posts excellent, well-researched, and accurate material and then lets all kinds of twaddle to appear.

He crosses his finger that his two articles so far published pass muster and the ax-wielders.

Not to worry about your articles. I'm reading about vermin in the trenches. I'm also downing a bowl of soup, but stopped, realizing that I should be gagging instead of enjoying my food.

There was a pretty obvious bit of spam this morning when I took my first look. A couple of hours later it was gone.
