I thought this might be of use to some of the writers here who use social media sites.

This is mentioned on the VigLink blog (see link below).

The new link wrapper and tiny URL feature it talks about are in the tools section - (where you check merchant coverage). Not sure how to make use of it yet, it says you can use it to add affiliate links when you post to social media (including Twitter/Facebook).

Maybe someone will explain how it works/you use it, in more detail in a Wizzley article or forum post.

I think it is a way of adding an affiliate link (to one of the merchants on VigLink's list) to a post to Twitter or Facebook and maybe even Pinterest.

I am not sure what 'wrap'  means, if the affilate link is hidden or just shortened in the post.  I have been writing online for 3 years, there still seems so much to learn.

I believe it's about shortening the url for social media- as people, being who'll see it not so much search engines (for this service I mean) don't like to look at a long url, even a wizzley sized url can wrap in those tiny boxes :) so by shortening the url you can tweet more words (without the entire url taking up most of them) and on FB you can offer a link without them knowing what it's to (leaving that to your ability to explain the link or excite them into checking it out, not judging before they click hehe)...

then I went to the site and read it :)

i digress..

This is basically viglink for social media, meaning it sets up your link to affiliate self sufficiently (it's wrapped up in the url itself, and they shrink the url so it doesn't get out of hand like an amazon product link haha)...

So it's all about being able to affiliate not just on your sites but in your tweets/posts to social media sites.... with that the last post also still stands, just another part of the same mechanism...

Jerrico

p.s. I doubt we'd use it here but if we did it would be viglinks version of how they already piggy back our links with our affiliate ID (for wizzley signups) when we post to twitter or facebook- only it would use viglink to handle the link and you'd lose your signup url... Using viglink seperately on those sites would work, however. You'd just do as you usually do, i.e. when finishing a wizzle you (well I do), immediately go to twitter and facebook and post them... complete with your aff code embedded, you can then go back and add another post on them using the viglink generated url (wrapper) to earn potentially from your link... likely only useful for product type articles...

Thanks Jerrico - maybe I will understand its usefulness more tomorrow. I am thinking it might not be the sort of thing I would use anyway. After all, I only just started to use Twitter since I joined Wizzley. Plus I still get puzzled by where and if a hashtag should go in a tweet.

Thanks for the post. I didn't know about it. It's basically a URL shortener wherein the URL is affiliated. So you could use it anywhere you wish without giving people huge links.  Ideal for social networks and mail.

I've been using the new link wrapping feature in my personal account for a couple of weeks now to put links on sites other than my niche blog (the site I have with them). Only thing it's been good for is to show me how useless the merchant tool can be. None of the links I created are being monetized because it turns out the programs are CPC and not CPA, and the specific products I'm linking to are not links that count for CPC.

Not sure just how Wizzley's relationship is working and whether they are being approved for the CPA versions of affiliate programs as a rule, but if you're doing it on your own, you have to ask to be submitted for approval for the CPA version, which you don't even know is a different program until you get clicks on links that aren't monetized and you ask why. (I'm assuming that Viglink in general is approved for the CPA version and is making money off my click if someone buys. But I don't because I haven't been approved for it individually.)

So basically, you make those links and get Viglink's tracking out farther, but you might not get any money from the effort. I'm glad I figured that out before I started using the links in my email marketing.

I've made some nice pocket change with Viglink on Wizzley. But my experience with it in my personal account has been far from happy.
