Help me, please!

Two quick questions - hopefully - easy ones

1. I am brand-spanking-new here, and only have had time to write two articles.

On the second one I wrote, I wanted to have a few more quality images. I found them on a website, and emailed the owners, explaining what I had in mind, and telling them I would be glad to let the readers know that they belonged to them. I told them I would also inform people about where to view the photos of the items online, and also where they could see them in person.

Is that all right to do? The company graciously told me I had their permission to use the photos, so I put six of them up a little while ago.

2. Am I required to put the source URL in the photo area, or was it sufficient to put it into the text area above? That is how I did it, so it did not appear I was "spamming" the internet with the same source for six photos.

Thank you!

I'm not Wizzley admin, but I am a gobby git who's been here a while.  That sounds great to me, you did it all correctly.

If you ever need royalty and copyright free pics, just to brighten up a page or break up some text, then Pixabay is a good place to start. It's owned by Simon, who also partially owns Wizzley.

As for a requirement for the URL - no, it's not part of the rules here.  However, it is polite to do so.  I credit it, unless it's off a free site like Pixabay.

Thank you, Jo! Apologies it took so long to say that, but had to close up our business and then take care of dinner for husband, etc.

I was concerned that it would look "spammy" - a word that seems to have a lot of meanings in today's online jargon - but also wanted to be sure I was adequately crediting the photos.

What spooked me a bit, was the warning about making sure we own the copyright to the photos. Writing on Squidoo and HP, and other sites including my own, had already given me a good idea about being cautious with images. However, I don't own the copyright to the photos I used on my second article, I merely had permission to use them.

Glad to hear you say that it looks like it was done correctly. I'll show it to the company who allowed me to add their photos. If they want more attribution, as in linking the URLs, I shall comply with their desires.

Once again, thank you!

Contacting the copyright owner and giving the proper credits (depending on the license) is always the right (legal) thing to do. Some sites are even more rigid and demand attribution in form of live links anyway, but this is not the case here, as far as I know.

Thanks, Tolovaj! I have written elsewhere, so am familiar with how stringent some of the sites are. I wanted to be sure this one was done correctly. After Jo commented earlier, I had the owner of the site who gave me permission to use six of their photos, check to see if it met their approval. They suggested a change, so I implemented it, and they approved the change.

Happy to see you are 'following the rules'. I've been on the receiving end of photographer ire when they THOUGHT I had used their photo without permission. That is not pretty.

(In fact it was my photo of the same thing, from my slightly lower angle, as the chap found out when the photos were compared by myself and others.)

I would rather be safe and careful than sorry and in receipt of a DMCA. Good on you for that.

Described by one of my clients as 'a literary grammarian', writing, researching and reading are requirements for sanity, at least this side of the keyboard.
