Fun Christmas Gifts for a Two-Year-Old Girl

by Mira

I have a two-year-old niece living in Canada. I don’t get to buy her many gifts, but I can see from afar, through photos and videos, what she’s enjoying.

This won’t be about clothes and make-up, and other things she’s enjoying already, but about fun toys for kids. Hope to give you some gift ideas for a two-year-old’s birthday. You can also get her one of these toys as a present this holiday season.

They include a great learning tablet for kids, a toy kitchen, a toy slide, a wheelbarrow for kids, and a certain present that parents will have lots of fun with as well: a bicycle trailer. Then there’s a plush item, a monkey hat, because, well, my niece makes lots of monkey faces. Some of these gifts are more affordable than others, but they’re all great for a two-year-old, so I hope you find something to your liking and budget.

Toy Kitchen -- They Come in Lots of Colors and Shapes

My niece likes to cook. Or she would. She makes attempts at Romanian cabbage rolls, with her parents giggling by her side. So they bought her a toy kitchen. When I saw the video, I was amazed at the idea. Of course, it makes so much sense for a girl to have not only a doll house, but also a kitchen. (I’m not saying that only girls should be raised this way, and neither are the makers of these kitchens: this one is pink, but there are plenty to choose from. In fact, I'm showing a second toy kitchen set for toddlers as well.)

Warning and Disclaimer of Liability

The manufacturer's recommended age bracket for the above toy kitchens are 36 months -- 15 years (for the first one) and 36 months -- 10 years (for the second one). I don't see how this interest a 15-year-old girl, but that's not the point. The idea is that it may pose a choking hazard as it contains small items that can be swallowed. So please supervise the kid when she's playing in her kitchen, or make sure someone does. Or at least tell them this is meant for 36 mos. and up, and that they should look for those parts themselves, in order to remove them or something. Or wait till the kid turns three and knows better. Either way, I don't want to be the cause of an unfortunate incident.

Probably the Best Learning Tablet for Small Kids

My niece is also enjoying her tablet. I did some research on best toy tablets for 2-year-olds and found a great learning tablet for kids from Samsung, released this fall (October 29, 2013). It has great apps for kids, is lightweight, and of course has a built-in camera, so you’re buying her two gifts in one. It has a fun interface but runs like a “grownup” tablet, with its 1.2 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. But the best thing about it is that it’s designed for children. It has an easy and fun interface and lots of apps and games a small child will enjoy. From what I could see it looks like this is the best tablet for kids available.

A two-year-old also likes toy slides. That I could see with more than one kid. My cousins bought my niece a small plastic slide and put it in the living room. She was really excited. It’s also a great way for a kid to expend her energy indoors. And there are toy slides out there that are rather affordable. Of course, when it’s nice outside, it’s even more fun when she can enjoy this toy in the back yard.

Speaking of back yard, my niece seems to enjoy gardening. So she has her own toy wheelbarrow, which she uses to collect leaves and carry things back and fro. She enjoys this activity quite a lot, too.

Bicycle Trailer

And since we got to toys on wheels, her parents bought a bicycle trailer, and ride on their bikes around the city and parks with the girl in her little cabin on those small two wheels. It all looked pretty amazing when I saw it. I didn’t see anything like it here, and it looked like a ton of fun for the kid. It’s also a great idea for the parents who enjoy biking, and want to teach their kid a few things about this eco-friendly world. Wonderful gift in my opinion, and one that the girl’s parents will thank you for if they are the kind you see on their bikes a lot.

Plush Monkey Hat with Long Paws

Plush Animal Hats

I’ll end this article with one gift I actually was able to buy her, a plush monkey hat similar to this one. I actually got it on the Canadian Amazon, and can’t find that particular item here. If you like this sort of plush hats for kids, then see more of them here:

I'm often wondering how these kids will be as young adults. I worry that too many of them are exposed to the pleasures of technology before they learn to embrace the natural world. But other than that, I think it's good to teach them languages as early as possible.

Mira, The image of your niece making cabbage rolls is enchanting! The chef's kitchen, slide, and wheelbarrow look like such great cooking, exercise, and gardening fun. It's also so important to find the best learning tablet since so many pre-schools start their two-year-olds on computers and Spanish language skills here!

I didn't even have an idea that toy was an option. Of course, it wasn't when I was growing up.

These gifts will definitely make the world of a 2 year old girl happy and wonderful. I dreamt of a kitchen-toy when I was a kid too.

They're so cute. I'm glad you wrote that page, because that's how I thought to send my niece one :)
