Interior design is my passion. I had the opportunity to attend UCLA's School of Interior Design many years ago, but decided I should do something more practical (in my mind) like becoming a teacher. I decorated my home in L.A. in cottage style. It got rave reviews from every visitor. I moved and decorated the next home in safari style. It also got rave reviews. I'm now onto spiritual minimalist. For quite some time, I've wanted to go all-out funky, but I'm afraid to take the leap. What if I get tired of it quickly? Maybe I'll do just one room such as my office/art studio. If you're a risk-taking eccentric, take a look at some of my favorite, funky-decor pieces from past and present.
Funky Interior Home Decor
If you harbor a bit of the eccentric, and need a home makeover, try funky interior home decor, past and present..
High Heel Shoe Chair
Of all the funky decor pieces, the high heel shoe chair is my favorite. It appeared on the scene in the 1990's in a black-velvet leopard print. I'm wild about leopard print. It's available now in different colors and prints. How does a pink dalmation print sound to you? It's not that comfortable to sit in, but it's a great conversation piece and it makes me smile. I bet my cats would find it comfortable. Although they might use it as a scratching post.
Christmas Story Leg Lamp
Remember the movie "Christmas Story"? Dad received a leg lamp in the mail as a Christmas present. He loved the lamp, but Mom thought it was hideous. She finally broke it under the pretense of a cleaning accident. You can have a lamp just like it. Think of how it will look with your high heel shoe chair.
Click on the picture and it will take you to Amazon where you'll find lamps of various sizes, a leg lamp tie for dad, leg lamp string of lights, leg lamp night light, leg lamp head knocker and more.
I've been meaning to get a lava light ever since they came out in the 60's. I think it would work great as a meditation tool. My golden retriever, Jessie, might even like it. I could put one in the bathroom for her. Every time there's a storm, she gets in the bathtub, because she's so scared. Meditating on the lava light while hiding in the bathtub might calm her nerves. I'm going to bust the piggy bank and buy one soon. You only live once so why not? I'll get one in every color and put them in my art studio. Click on one of the lamps to your left and Amazon will give you a special deal when you buy three of them. That's a great price.
Funky Art Posters
Now that you have a leg lamp, a lava lamp and a high heel shoe chair, it's time for some high class art for your walls. Although art is subjective, this is where you need to make a little effort to show your friends that you took art appreciation 101. Make it classy with some nudes, Mickey Mouse or Elvis Presley in his gold lame suit. Let your guests know you have culture.
