Japanese Kimono Child Costume for Halloween

by Marie

A Kimono robe outfit for girls will turn your little one into a beautiful Asian princess. These Japanese clothes make wonderful, richly colored Halloween and dressing up costumes.

Any girl will love to be transformed into a stunning Asian Princess with a richly detailed and colored Kimono robe. This traditional Japanese garment has sweeping sleeves and a wide sash belt.

This is an elegant and adorable dress for a child to wear. You can choose to put together your own style of design with the tips and ideas presented on this page or purchase one that comes ready made for you like the featured child's outfit.

Step 1 - A Kimono Princess Child Costume Robe

A children's Kimono robe makes a beautifully elegant dressing up outfit for the season of Halloween and other occasions where they can enjoy wearing something very different. Turn your little girl into an Asian princess with a simple change of clothes and what she wears.

The design here looks very much like a silk robe or dressing gown with long, wide sleeves and a wide sash belt. If you wanted to create the look without buying a costume, a thin, silky dressing gown in a vibrant red, pink or turquoise blue color could work instead.

How adorable is this pink Asian princess outfit for girls which is selling out fast. You might have to add in your email address to be notified when it's back in stock for the size you want. It's due back in before Halloween at any rate.

The set includes:

* Pretty pink kimono dress

* Pink obi sash belt

* Matching headpiece

This adorable silky pink dress robe features a pretty floral pattern and it's trimmed with a darker fabric. The dress fastens at the back with velcro for easy on and off.

The finishing touch comes with the matching fan style hairpiece with a large flower on a hair comb.

Step 2 - Japanese Hair and Wigs

There is no one hair style to go along with this mode of dress. Japanese hair is normally a natural brown to black but if you were going for a fantasy look outfit with a modern twist, you could adopt bright blue or pink hair with a wig instead.

Japanese hair worn with this robe is often twisted up into knots which may be held in place with hair sticks - these look very much like chopsticks but have one end which is pointy to go through the hair easily. Hair might also be adorned with flower decorations. You can get headbands for children which feature fabric flowers. Place this over natural hair or a wig.

Step 3 - Japanese Shoes and Footwear

Traditional Japanese shoes worn by women are known as Zori. These are thong style sandals which normally have a bit of a wedge heel. Zori used to be made from natural materials such as wood, plant fibers, leather and cloth. But you can find modern versions in plastic and rubber.

Flip flops or sandals with a thong front and a slightly raised heel would make great footwear as well.

Step 4 - Accessories for This Outfit

If you want to add accessories to this to make it appear more authentic or because you're putting one together yourself, here's some extra ideas to help you.

Along with the Zori thong sandals which you've seen above, a Japanese woman or a man would also wear Tabi which are special socks. Tabi look something like regular ankle-high socks (often but not always in white) that have a separation between the big toe on each foot and the other toes. This is so they could be worn easily with thonged sandals.

You can take a normal pair of ankle-high socks, pull them so they are very loose over the toes before putting the thong sandals over the top - now there will be enough slack in the fabric to allow the shoes to be worn.

If you're making an outfit from a silky robe or dressing gown, you'll need a wide silky sash tied at the back to hold the robe neatly in place. You can purchase neck sashes which could also be used for this purpose - or simply sew some fabric into a long sash yourself.

Step 5 - Makeup

You don't need to add any makeup for a girl wearing this style of dress. But you might want to add some red lips using a touch of child-friendly face paints. Some Japanese ladies are depicted as having a white face, exaggerated painted black eyebrows and bright red lips. That's a style you could use as well.

I hope you've enjoyed reading my wizzles page today, thanks for your visit. I like the idea of adding a little red face paint over the mouth and perhaps a pretty little butterfly design high on one cheekbone which would look adorable for a little Japanese princess.

They look gorgeous, don't they. We currently use some floral curtains which have been cut up into sheets to make pretend kimonos and togas etc. Great fun.
