Love Potions

by Holistic_Health

Using essential oils to create a love potion is a great use of aromatherapy. We are naturally attracted to the scents of flowers and plants. Why not use them to your advantage?

The essential oils that are used in aromatherapy are great for romance because the scent goes straight from the nose to the brain. The scents are really chemical messengers that cause your brain to respond. There is a large body of research that shows the pheromone properties of essential oils have a stimulating effect and more personal care product manufacturers are are incorporating them into their perfumes and skin care care formulations.

The oldest part of the human brain--the limbic system--is greatly affected by scent. Since the limbic system is tied to our emotions and memories, the effect of scent can be quite emotional. An even more stimulating thing about essential oils is that long after the scent has disappeared, the effect lingers.

You can use essential oils in your everyday life, but remember they are very concentrated and applying directly to your skin can cause burns so make sure to dilute them with a carrier oil.

Best Essential Oils For Romance

Love PotionThere are as many essential oils as there are flowers and plants, but where romance is concerned, consider orange, jasmine or black pepper. Other good choices for passion are clary sage, rose, or cedar wood.

Take 3 small cotton balls and apply a drop of essential oil on each. Keep these in your linen closet. Allow about 2 hours for the scent to diffuse into your clothes. Your pillows and sheets will reek of romance! Don't apply essential oils directly to cloth because it will stain.

Rose oil is an all time favorite for romance and love. You can try different combinations of oils combining rose and other oils that promote romance. Once you discover your favorites, you can look for lotions, creams, and candles that combine your favorites or make your own aromatherapy products like massage oils, lotions, and candles.

Love Potion Ingredients

A love potion is comprised of four ingredients -- you, herbs, essential oil, and magic words.

My favorite essential oil is Neroli. The oil is pale yellow and has a sweet citrus aroma with a slightly bitter undertone. It comes from the delicate white blossoms of the Seville orange tree. It can be used to draw love or heal love.

Now, back to business. You will need--

  • A Locket
  • Neroli Oil
  • Herbs basil, lavender, and dill
  • A length of gold cord

Scent the locket with a few drops of Neroli oil. Add some your nail clippings and a lock of your hair. Place both inside the locket with the herbs and seal it. Attach the gold cord to the locket to make a pendant.

Perform this spell at midnight when the moon is full. Hold it towards the sky. Imagine yourself as an enchanting God or Goddess. As you do so, repeat this incantation aloud three times--

What a great post! I'm surprised that Black Pepper is one recommended for romance! I love Orange and Jasmine though. And rose, of course. I love the idea of the love potion in a locket, or to put in your linens. Lovely. Thank you!

Orange, rose and jasmine have always been among my favorites. I never would have expected pepper and cedarwood to be great for romance. I'll check that out. Pepper sounds wonderful!
