Make Your Thanksgiving Fun with Thanksgiving-Themed Products from Zazzle and Amazon

by Mira

November 22 is Thanksgiving Day this year. You may have planned Thanksgiving dinner with family and/or friends. Here's how to make that dinner and day fun.

Here are a few suggestions for how to make your Thanksgiving dinner and day a holiday to remember with a few items from Zazzle, the best online store for custom gifts.

With one million designers and 25,000,000+ unique monthly customers, Zazzle offers a whole array of artistic statements on 350+ quality products: T-shirts and bags of several styles, iPhone cases, mousepads, keychains, hats, necklaces, ties, postcards, greeting cards, invitations, stamps, envelopes, posters, laptop sleeves, Kindle skins, calendars, plates, napkins, aprons – you name it. You’ll see some of these kinds of products below in this article, as I scour Zazzle for great Thanksgiving items.

Amazon you know. From books to electronics to kitchen appliances, they have it all -- minus customizable designs. (Well, they have started added some of those too, from Zazzle.) Amazon is ready for Thanksgiving, too. I'll take you on a tour of some of their Thanksgiving-themed items.

First of all, if you’re going to invite people over for Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll need invitations. Zazzle does that for you. It has a whole range of invitations, from various artists. Here’s one that appealed to me. I like the way the designer stylized the tree, making the beauty of the colorful foliage, with the leaves changing colors at various rates in the very same tree, stand out.

Clicking on the invitation will take you to Zazzle, where you can personalize the text easily. Or you can browse for other designs. You may want to have a turkey on the card, for instance.

Fall Leaves Tree

Well, now that you found a design for the invitation and personalized it on the site in a matter of minutes, you may like to find a nice Thanksgiving-themed stamp as well. Look no further than Zazzle! Here’s a fun Thanksgiving stamp design with a pilgrim couple, a turkey, and two pumpkins!

If you got a contemporary, sleek-styled invitation, you may want to be consistent and get a stamp of a design that would nicely match that of the invitation -- although I think this stamp design works well too, because the invitation above is not only elegant but also fun. In any event, there are plenty of custom-made stamps on Zazzle, and you are certain to find one you'll be happy with.

Fun Turkey Day Stamp

You can buy the stamps in sheets of 20. If you don't plan to invite that many people, you can split the stamps and cost with a co-worker, for instance, or use the stamps for whatever other purposes later (bills, etc.).

Doesn’t your Thanksgiving seem like more fun already? How about you get a themed apron, too? It will be fun for your children to see you wearing it, and it’s certainly useful as you prepare your dishes – particularly when your kids photograph you wearing it and share the photos with their friends.

I wish there were more fun designs for aprons, but unfortunately the selection in this category is rather limited. There's a turkey in the oven crying "Somebody call my lawyer!", a few designs for vegans with messages like "Go Vegans!" or "Vegans Rule!" but nothing that really stands out. Too bad.

I'm Outta Here Turkey

Well, but Zazzle is well-stocked on tee shirt designs for Thanksgiving, and you may want to get a Happy Thanksgiving long-sleeve tee shirt for yourself and your partner, to wear at the table.

Men's Thanksgiving T-Shirt: Somebody Call My Lawyer. (The design shows up alright if you click on the T-shirt.)
Women's Happy Thanksgiving Long-Sleeved T-Shirt (Click on the shirt to see it.)

Vintage Pilgrim Boy Praying on Pumpkin Plate

Why don’t you go all out, and get Thanksgiving plates as well? This could be one Thanksgiving dinner to remember! If getting holiday-themed plates for everyone at the table is too costly, why don’t you get it for your little ones only? There are cute designed for and with kids on Zazzle as well, and they can make great keepsakes for your kids when they grow older. You can make it a tradition to get new Thanksgiving plates for your children each year. It may even inspire them to do more arts and crafts themselves as they get older.

Get Some Nice Thanksgiving Napkins

When you set the table, wouldn't it be nice to have Thanksgiving napkins? Amazon has a good selection of those. The ones shown to the right, for instance, come cheap ($3.59 for 16 napkins) but make quite an impact. Napkins are quite an accent at a dinner, and they're so much fun when they are made for the occasion. Children, in particular, will appreciate them, but so will adults, seeing that you put a lot thought not only into the Thanksgiving dinner menu, but also in the set-up of the table.

Surprise the Guests and Keep the Kids Entertained

At Thanksgiving, if there are children present, you've got to keep them entertained as they run around the table. Amazon has a bunch of turkey headbands and hats that look like fun. You may want to welcome your guests wearing one, for a laugh, or have your children open the door wearing them. Note that the headband presented to the right is a little large for children -- nothing that can't be fixed with a safety pin, however. At $6.99 at the time of my writing this, it's a perfect little thing to make your Thanksgiving dinner more fun. Note that there are other designs involving a roast turkey.

A Cute Thanksgiving Costume for a Toddler

If you have a toddler around for Thanksgiving, whether it's yours or a guest's, it will be fun to have a turkey costume handy. They are not very expensive: $18.99 at the time of my writing this (November 10, 2012). It includes a plush body, hood, and shoe covers. The kid will look cute and the photo and memories will be wonderful. The kid will enjoy the attention and the feel of the costume, and there will be more laughs and smiles at the table this Thanksgiving on account of a turkey costume.

There are fun Thanksgiving costumes for infants as well. Just click on the toddler costume and browse around in the Amazon page that opens, and you'll find them.

Need Thanksgiving Decoration Ideas? Here's One

There's no reason why Thanksgiving shouldn't have lit decorations like Christmas. The theme would have to be fall / autumn, of course. Here's a nice maple leaf that you can place in the window at Thanksgiving time. When your guests arrive it will be dark already, so this will be a great way to create atmosphere even before you open your door to greet them! The leaf can be a nice decoration in the window the rest of the season, until you get out your Christmas lights.

If you're wondering what to put on the table at Thanksgiving, get Rick Rodgers' Thanksgiving 101 in time for a heads-up of what would make a nice Thanksgiving dinner and what you would like to eat yourself and serve your guests. A lot of Americans, even after celebrating Thanksgiving many times, still wonder what a typical or traditional Thanksgiving dinner entails as far as food. If you decided to host a Thanksgiving dinner party yourself this year, don't waste precious time looking up recipes one by one and wondering if you're missing any Thanksgiving staples; instead, get one of the best Thanksgiving cookbooks and start planning your dinner following the advice of chefs like Rick Rodgers, who will guide you not only through the recipes, but also through the timeline of making a Thanksgiving dinner, which, of course, takes a few days.

Rick Rodgers comes to the rescue of newbies, and also provides helpful tips for veteran Thanksgiving cooks. The recipes are both traditional and gourmet. People who have followed his advice gush on Amazon about the wonderful results, appreciated by family and friends. A turkey that came out perfect the first time around, great gravy and stuffing, and nice vegetarian options for those at the table who don't eat meat.

Serve Pumpkin Spice Coffee as a Finishing Touch to Your Thanksgiving Dinner

A nice touch at the end of your Thanksgiving dinner, following all those rich dishes, is flavorful, low-acid coffee. Pumpkin spice coffee will nicely complement the Thanksgiving menu, to the delight of the many coffee lovers at the table, who aren't expecting their coffee to be that special. The Bean Coffee Company offers an organic grind of pumpkin spice coffee at $21.58 for a pack of two 16-ounce bags. Order something else for a total of $25 and you will get free shipping.

The pumpkin spice organic coffee from The Bean Coffee Company is a medium dark roast with hints of the spices which go into a great pumpkin pie: nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves.

If You're Not Hosting the Thanksgiving Dinner

If you're invited to someone else's house for Thanksgiving, then be sure to boy a gift for the hostess. A flower bouquet to be used as a table centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner is a great idea.

Only $59.95

You will also need a table centerpiece if you are hosting the Thanksgiving dinner yourself, even if you may receive several when your guests arrive. So until they do, you can go for something fun, easy to put together, like a pumpkin turned into a vase for handpicked flowers. If you don't have much of a back yard and garden, and don't want to order a bouquet, a couple of scented candles tied with nice ribbons and surrounded by acorns and colorful leaves will do.

Cards for Those Who Can't Join You to Celebrate Thanksgiving Together

This Thanksgiving you may also wish to send a few old-fashioned Thanksgiving cards, the way you used to do when some of your relatives weren’t on email and long-distance calling was actually expensive. Remember those times? Well, there were a few good things good about them. Postcards and greeting cards, for one.

This Thanksgiving you can reinstate that nice card-sending tradition. Choose fun, cartoony designs, vintage ones, or contemporary, sleek photo or graphic design images of colorful foliage.

Do you have people in your life you want to give thanks to for something? Now’s a good time. Choose a card design, and get it in bulk for a discount. Then you can send the cards to many special people in your life. They will appreciate the gesture. Of course, you can follow up with emails and phone calls, or online chats. You may be too busy, however, to send an individual email note to everyone who would be happy to hear from you, so get cracking on the cards ahead of time, and everyone will be happier come Thanksgiving.

"Why is everyone looking at me?"
A Card and a Thanksgiving Basket Go Nicely Together

If you feel your good wishes should be accompanied by something more substantial, Amazon offers a nice range of Thanksgiving Gourmet baskets. Thanksgiving should be a time of bounty, so a bountiful gift basket is definitely in order, especially as it usually contains coffee and tea, sweets and confectioneries, and drinks (such as cider) that can wait until after Thanksgiving. It would make a nice thank you gift idea for people who have stood by you in 2012 and the years past, people who have been there for you when you needed them. Let them know your appreciation. A basket at Thanksgiving comes at the right time: the time to give thanks in a more palpable form.

Have a Happy and Fun Thanksgiving!

Mira, Very nice! Thanksgiving is my favorite fall holiday because of the colors and the foods. Your suggestions all look good, and so timely with Thanksgiving just around the corner, particularly in terms of the decorative maple leaf, the gift basket and the pilgrim plates.
What are your favorite decorations and menus?

Thanksgiving might require more than one clean apron, given that the many dinner items take a few days to prepare!!

katiem2 on 11/14/2012

I'm with Brenda, I love the turkey apron. Aprons are a must have for cooking the feast and looking good after.

Mira on 11/11/2012

That cartoony turkey appears on other items as well. :) It's a fun design :))

It's always fun to celebrate the holidays in style!

Well in fact this entire page is fantastic. It is obvious the amount of work that went into it. Plus the availability of good Thanksgiving decor and such is very hard to find, a shame as this very important holiday should be honored as so many others. Anyway, I adore this magnificent page and am off to share it. :)K

Thank you, Katie! I like those shirts a lot, too! :-)
