Review of Hormel Black Label Fully Cooked Bacon

by StevenHelmer

I purchased a package of this earlier this week. Read to find out what I thought of it.

Product Description: Fully-cooked sliced bacon from the Hormel Black Label brand. I purchased this heat-and-serve bacon product while shopping at one of our local grocery stores earlier this week for around $4 and, after warming up the bacon in our microwave oven, used the slices when making BLTs for dinner.

Review

I recently purchased 4 pounds of tomatoes during a routine shopping trip at Costco and, not wanting them to go bad, have been trying to find ways to use them. This includes deciding on BLTs for dinner a earlier this week.

When I made this decision, I realized the only ingredient I was missing. So, before work, I stopped at one of our local grocery stores and, after some consideration, purchased a box of the Hormel Black Label Fully Cooked Bacon.

This decision was made, in part, as a result of the price. I knew I wasn't going to have a lot of time after work to make dinner (we had some other things going on that evening) and decided to go with an already-cooked variety. The Black Label brand was about 50 cents cheaper than my other options. And, as it turns out, it was a good purchase overall.

As far as preparation goes, this product was as I expected it to be. All I had to do was put the bacon slices on a microwave-safe plate, cook them for a short time and they were done. They even came out of the microwave nice and crisp, just as I like my bacon.

I was a little concerned about the taste when I purchased this brand because a lot of the pre-cooked varieties tend to be a bit on the salty side. That was not a problem with this brand, however, The bacon had a nice flavor to it and was well-seasoned. But, it was not overly salty and was much more enjoyable as a result of that. In fact, I think the BLT sandwiches were a big hit as a direct result of this bacon choice for that very reason.

Final Opinion

It was definitely a product I found myself impressed with and, since it was the most affordable option, is a bacon brand I would buy again.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
It's nice to know this, for those of us readers who eat bacon, ham and pork. For those of us who don't, is it possible that Hormel makes turkey bacon available?
