Product Description: Frozen baked ziti pasta in a tomato sauce and covered in three different cheeses. The product is available for $11.99 through Schwan's home delivery service. My wife purchased this product a couple weeks ago and we ended up making this for dinner late last week after our daughters' ice skating lessons.
Review of Schwan's Hearty Baked Ziti

My wife purchased this product from Schwan's home delivery service a couple weeks ago. Was it worth the money?
Review
Even though we do have Schwan's stop by our house every couple of weeks, we actually very rarely purchase anything from them (this is mostly because they come on non-payday weeks). However, my wife and I had a little extra in our food budget a couple weeks ago and decided to order a few things as a result. One of these was their Hearty Baked Ziti.
This product was actually something my wife was interested in trying, mostly because it looked good in the picture. While I didn't object, I honestly did have some doubts about this item, especially at the $11.99 price. And, unfortunately, after trying this late last week, I can honestly say it did not live up to my expectations.
My wife actually was the one who made this item (in our oven) while I was at the ice rink with my oldest daughter. And, I will start out by saying, when it came out of the oven, it did look very similar to what we saw in the catalog picture. That is something I'm not able to say about other frozen dinners.
However, while the product looked nice, it just wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be. To be clear, it wasn't terrible. In fact, it had a decent taste to it. It just wasn't anything overly special.
In other words, there really wasn't anything about this product that set itself apart from the dozens of similar frozen dinners we could purchase at our local grocery store. Mostly because this dinner was twice as expensive as those dinners, I was expecting more from it (especially since it also didn't offer much more as far as quantity goes). It did not, however, live up to those expectations and, as a result of that, I was disappointed by it.

Final Opinion
I'm normally not disappointed with Schwan's products. But, this one was definitely one of the rare exceptions. As I said, it wasn't bad. But, at the current price, it's just not something that is worth the money.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for practical information, pretty pictures and product lines.
It's disappointing to learn that such an elegantly simple package does not contain an equally elegantly appealing product. I stay away from beef and pork mixes and from fontinella instead of ricotta with mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.
How easy would it have been to separate the beef and pork?
