Review of Sea Queen Frozen Fish Sticks

by StevenHelmer

My wife purchased a box of these a couple weeks ago and I made them for dinner last night. Read to find out what I thought of them.

Product Description: Frozen breaded fish sticks from the Sea Queen brand and are made of minced fish meat. My wife picked up a box of these while shopping at Aldi a couple weeks ago and I decided to make these last night, cooking half the box in the oven with a bag of fries and serving with a zucchini side dish. These were part of our Monday night family dinner for four.

A Good Bargain Brand

Sea Queen Fish SticksI didn’t plan on having fish sticks for dinner last night. Instead, I planned on making steak. However, when I got home, I discovered we didn’t have any steak in our freezer (something that surprised me a bit) and, since it was too cold to go back out and drive to the store, I decided to make the fish sticks as an alternative. And, the fact it is one thing everyone in my family will eat was a big part of that decision.

It has been a while since I’ve tried the Sea Queen brand and couldn’t remember if the brand was any good or was just another cheap bargain brand that sacrificed quality to save me money. As it turns out, it was more of the former than the latter.

One of the first things I noticed about this brand when I cooked the fish sticks in the oven was the lack of grease. I’ve had plenty of bargain fish sticks that ended up coating the cookie sheet in a layer of fat and, since that isn’t very appetizing, I was glad to see that was not the case with this particular brand.

Another thing I found I liked about this brand was the fact the fish sticks ended up getting crispy in the oven. This, again, isn’t always the case with the more affordable brands and, since this is something everyone in the family enjoys, I was grateful.

As far as taste goes, I also had no complaints. I can’t say I haven’t had better. However, compared to most other affordable brands, these definitely were an upgrade. In fact, if I were to compare these to some of the top brands, I do think it would be hard to tell them apart. The fact I saved money by purchasing these was obviously a big plus.

Final Opinion

As I said before, there are likely some other brands out there that are better. However, this brand offered decent quality for a reasonable price and, as a result of that, is a brand I would recommend purchasing if you get a chance.

StevenHelmer, Thank you for product lines, pretty pictures and practical information.
Once again, I appreciate finding reviews of bagged, boxed, canned, frozen, jarred products that help me when I serve fresh food that just isn't enough for the number of anticipated guests -- because of drop-ins -- or of expected re-serving requests.

What kind of fish is minced fish meat?
